I regret using the term "proud believer". i should have said humble believer. The Bible teaches that the 2 things the Lord despises the most is Pride and Dishonesty. Which i love to point out when sex obsessed right wing christians focus SO much of their scorn toward Gay marriage. Homosexuality is a Sin, yes, but I guess it wouldnt be practical to run around preaching constantly against Ego, pide, arrogance, and lying now, would it?
it would hardly bring in the big bucks and deliver all those votes.
As ive said, I believe in Jesus Christ, not Christians.

this article explains what i meant: I'll stop after this i promise...

What does the Bible say about pride?

Question: "What does the Bible say about pride?"

Answer: God hates pride (Proverbs 8:13). The Bible tells us that, “pride brings destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly than to live it up among the rich and famous (Proverbs 16:18-19). The Message paraphrase of Proverbs 16:5 goes on to say that, “God cannot stomach arrogance or pretense; believe me, He’ll put those upstarts in their place.”

Throughout scripture we are continuously told about the consequences of pride. Satan was cast out of heaven because of pride (Isaiah 14:12-15). He had the selfish determination to replace God Himself as the rightful ruler of this world. But Satan will be cast down to hell in the final judgment of God. For those who rise up in defiance against God, there is nothing ahead for them but disaster, because “I will rise up against them” is the promise of the Lord. He will cut them off (Isaiah 14:22).

James 4:6 tells us that God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. A sharp contrast exists between worldly and divine jealousy; men want revenge, but He gives more grace. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and His way. And do you suppose God doesn’t care? The Message paraphrase of James 4:5-6 has it that, “He’s a fiercely jealous lover. And what He gives in love is far better than anything else you’ll find. It’s common knowledge that God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble.”

Pride has kept many people from accepting Jesus Christ as personal Savior. Refusing to admit sin and acknowledging that in our own strength we cannot do anything to inherit eternal life has been a stumbling block for prideful people. We are not to boast about ourselves, but if we want to boast, then we are to proclaim the glories of God. What you say about yourself means nothing in God’s work. It’s what God says about you that makes the difference (2 Corinthians 10:13).

Why is pride so sinful? Pride is giving yourself the credit for something that God has accomplished. Pride is taking the glory that belongs to God alone and giving it to yourself. Pride is essentially self-worship. Anything we accomplish in this world would not have been possible were it not for God enabling and sustaining us. That is why we give God the glory...for He alone deserves it.

I know religion will open up a huge can of worms here, so i`ll stay away for now. I do have my own opinion, but 50% might agree 50% might not!

Religion and politics....smart people avoid public discussions of both! Someone once told me that. Did I listen? nah....

Problem with Religious discussion is that people get so passionate about their views that it becomes hard to have a rational discussion without one side or the other becoming either condescending, preachy or over emotional.

I, for instance, am not really a fan of organized religion, in general. I have had some interesting discussions with my mostly Catholic family (especially the wife's family because she is at church every Sunday and I don't go!)

pat robertson seems to be slipping up more and more in his old age. for instance, while i may agree with assassinating certain world leaders, i dont think he is the one who should be calling for them. hes off his rocker.

My personal opinion:

LET THE CHURCHES DECIDE IF THEY WANT TO MARRY HOMOSEXUALS OR NOT.IT'S NOT THE GOVERNMENTS JOB TO SAY WHO CAN AND CANNOT BE MARRIED!

i agree that Jerry is a loon too.

i tend to go for guys like TD Jakes, the rebel types. but for the most part, the "big shots" are too big, taking too much of the focus for themselves and their churches, while all the praise should go to the Lord.

Nah...me and Dom (stlrs4life) discuss politics every time we see each other, and we have a lot of differences of opinion, but we are always civil and still friends.

It's all about respecting the person you are arguing with...

I agree. I have a few friends that I discuss politics with, even though we disagree most of the time. As you say, it's all about respect.

But, to be fair, sometimes I don't respect the person I'm arguing with...when that happens, the gloves come off.

That's why I think it is a bad idea to discuss religion or politics on a fan message board... not just this one, any of them. It is strictly forbidden over at RF.net.
