Just wondering how many of you may:

- go to less games.
- give up season tickets
- buy less Steeler gear
- forgo NFL ticket (for those out of viewing area)
- go out less to bars

There is no questions lots of fans have changed their buying habits
due to the cluster f---k we are in. And it's obvious nothing is going to
get any better in the foreseeable future.

I used the lousy economy as this year's excuse to go to DirecTV and say i was not willing to pay full price - they knocked $100 off The Ticket and gave me Sunday Ticket To Go for free

That works but you have to put it in somebody else's name. You can't cancel and then re-sign and get new customer deals. You can cancel and put it in your wife's name however, and get the new customer deal with the Sunday ticket. I know this for a fact.

True...thats what i did. I dont understand why their giving it free when new customers sign up for it.....Us people that had it for years should get the deals.

In my experience, if you want freebies, you don't even have to go through
with actually canceling. Just call asking to cancel and when they ask why
say you can't quite afford it, but maybe you could if they would give X for
free. They usually do it and you don't have to go through the process of actually
canceling.

I just switched from cable to Directv and I have to say, it was an unbelievably good decision. My bill was cut down by 40 bucks, and that's after my free 3 month trial for the premiums.

If any of you are serious about going to Directv, and I would defiantly go now to do it, especially if you are on cable, they are offering practically everything for free like 2 dvr set up and all that stuff.

You also get 100 bucks off that is stretched out to 10 dollars off a month for 10 months. I used my buddy as the refer guy when i joined, saved 100 there, then i refereed 2 of my friend and got another 200 bucks.

Here's my account number: 34204835. If you are serious about switching, use that account number when you call and you will get 100 bucks off your bill right off the bat. I highly recommend it. I got Sunday ticket for free for this year too.

I'll change a million other habits before changing my Steelers habit. Hell I'll be on the verge of homelessness before cutting my Steelers routine.

Well, my single-worse experience was with DTV, in terms of being
a consumer. That being said, it was when they were really ramping
up and, at least in this area, didn't have the manpower to come in
and fix the unit if something was wrong. Long story short - my system
quit working, they sent me a new card, and didn't fix it and they eventually
told me to talk to the manufacturer of the box - the box THEY sent me.
Then, after I went back to cable, they sent a collection agency after me
as if I was still using their shit service. And back then, you couldn't get
any local channels either, but I _did_ have NFL package, which was
great. All that being said, I do not believe I would experience service
problems today as I did back then.

Since that time I have been very happy with Comcast. They have come in
here and fixed my cables when it was no fault of their own, and not charging
me a dime. Their On Demand and DVR services are sublime. And my price
hasn't gone up at all forever. Plus, when ever you change over from one
system to another there is always grief.

Also, not having every Steeler game on TV forced us to go out to Steeler bars
and we met most of our friends, to this day, from going out to watch Steeler
games. It's a nice mix: about 60% of the Steeler games are not on TV, forcing
us to go out, but about 40% of the time, it is on, from being a prime time game
or a national game in the afternoon and I don't have to go to the bar for those
games. I like both for various reasons.

I will probably go to one game in Pgh and one away game, probably in Cleveland
around Christmas this year. Long way of saying "My Steeler expenditures will remain
about the same as they have been."

Just got off the phone with DTV. Did the threaten to cancel routine and got the deal of four payments of 39.99 for the season. Not to bad.

Just remember if you do this they might just take you up on your threat and cancel. Just be nice and polite and you should get a decent deal.

I haven't changed my habits much. I still drive 3 hours to go to camp every once in a while, still buy gear i want and if I really want to go to a game I do...I wasn't really effected by the shitty economy already.

Yes, definitely do so in a polite manner. I like doing the "things
are tough out here, have to find a way to spend less $ - don't have
any other choice."

Also, throw in some "I have to check with the boss" as well. Bottom
line, when you bring up price being a factor, in most cases (other than
a fast food joint) they will find a way to do it cheaper. For years we never
had to buy new cell phones - they always gave us free ones to stop us
from canceling - allegedly. However, we started getting the cells that
were yesterday's technology so we decided to end being on the cheap
and just go with the program.

If I decided to go DTV I'd definitely get a better deal than advertised. But
one thing about DTV that they haven't fixed yet: If a major storm comes in
you lose the signal. In FL you can get major storms at any time. I can't
live without my TV working right. If I was watching a Steeler game and lose
the signal, I would go mental.

That one good thing being in idaho, we don't get the hurricanes or tropical storms.

I have done the "I can't afford the Sunday Ticket this year" for the past 6 yrs. They give me a discount every year.
This year (and last year) they gave me 20 bucks off/month ($34x 6 months) for ST.
How did you manage 4 x $39? Thats a steal.

Yea, most places have their ad-and disadvantages. But it's not like
we have hurricanes or tropical storms every day. 2004 seemed like
it though. But on the plus side, I barely ever, ever wear socks or
"shoes" other than sandals. Never have long pants on. And can
ride my bike 99% of the time instead of using a car. But we certainly
can get hit with storms dense enough to block sat. signals. I have
Sirius radio, and have a few days where I can't get a signal.
