Steelers Players Comment On Holmes' Arrest
(KDKA) PITTSBURGH

The Pittsburgh Steelers are talking for the first time about the arrest of this year's top draft pick.

Santonio Holmes was arrested in Miami Beach Friday night on charges of disorderly conduct.

While the Steelers front office is reserving comment, the players generally viewed Holmes disorderly conduct arrest as a young man's learning experience.

Holmes is a few spectacular catches away from being a superstar in Pittsburgh and he's never broken from a Heinz Field scrimmage line.

Being arrested in Miami Saturday for disorderly conduct is an uncomfortable wrinkle.

“Every now and then stuff happens and he's going to be alright with it,” said offensive lineman Kendall Simmons. “Just watch himself from here on out ‘cause you get marked if you have a problem like that.”

Steelers veteran players don't seem to upset by Holmes south beach problem.

“He got himself in a situation that hopefully in the future he'll be smart enough to keep himself out of,” said center Jeff Hartings. “If he's not, his checkbook it going to start showing it.

“I would definitely hope this will teach him a lesson and something that he'll learn to stay away from,” Hartings added. “I'm sure the coaches and the players on this team will make him realize that.”

NFL rules won't allow Holmes to join the team until training camp begins in Latrobe, but the players expect there will be conversations about the Miami incident before he reports.

“You wanna go have a good time and if you want to do the partying and drinking that's fine,” Simmons said. “But you have the right kind of people around you that somebody has your back and will keep you out of trouble.”

Well they shouldn't be. Its not like he beat up his baby's mama or was arrested for pointing a gun at someone or having coke on him. Holmes is a young man that made a mistake. I sure have made my share of mistakes in my life.

This I do agree with ......
