Daniel Sepulveda Healthy, Ready To Compete For Starting Punting Duties For Steelers
Aug 26 8:09p
by Michael Bean (http://pittsburgh.sbnation.com/authors/michael-bean)

If you have followed the Pittsburgh Steelers (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/pittsburgh-steelers) closely this past three seasons and have read Ed Bouchette’s work in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, you’ve probably encountered the veteran columnist bemoan the Steelers decision to use a fourth round draft pick in 2008 on a punter. Daniel Sepulveda, a Baylor grad who’s endeared himself to fans with his willingness to sign autographs and propensity to seek out contact on punt coverage, has been unable to stay healthy in his three seasons in Pittsburgh. Twice he’s been lost for the year with ACL tears in his battered and bruised right knee knees, validating Bouchette’s critique of expending such a high draft pick on a punter.

Fully healthy once again, Sepuvlveda is not guaranteed to win the starting punting duties (http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/redskins/finally-healthy-steelers-p-dan-sepulveda-in-first-real-battle-for-his-job/2011/08/25/gIQAWwxDeJ_story.html) for the Steelers in 2011. He doesn’t mind having to work for the job though:

No chance in hell he loses his job as long as his ACL is in tact.

He is gonna win this job, no competition. Kapinos will be available if Sepulveda gets hurt...its Dans job.

If the Punt team actually made tackles and did their jobs he wouldn't have to chase after and tackle punt returners heading for the end zones and he could stay healthy...

Gentlemen, i dont know if you realize this but the ONLY common thing in our two most recent seasons in which we reached the super bowl is ...Sepulveda having a season ending injury.

I have already contacted Tonya Harding to see if she knows anyone to take care of this.

Sepulveda healthy. Until he plays in his first game or two and gets injured again. I'd LOVE to have the guy full-time, all the time, but i really have zero faith he'll stay injury-free.

Specialists like kickers, punters and snappers usually have jobs locked up until they lose them. Very rarely will you see two specialists compete head to head in training camp. Good ones are so hard to come by.

The common thing among winning super bowls years was having willie parker in the playoffs. Every year he has been hurt or cut in the playoffs, we have not made/lost the big game.
