View Full Version : Jerome Bettis

Upon a white striped battlefield
watered with sweat and blood
A grizzled-vet with a champions heart
fought through the dust and mud.

A modern day warrior, present day knight
on whose shoulders our hopes would ride,
He cared enough for the team..his team
to put his personal goals aside.

He placed himself in familiar stance
and looked towards the goal
when handed the ball he plowed ahead
towards the superbowl.

Vivid in our memory
are those moments time will turn
into the stuff of storied lore
our childrens kids will learn.

Could he truly strive when hurt?
Did he... could he play when lame?
Did he really drag four men
for a touchdown in one game?

And we can say we saw it all...
every battle in the war.
"Bettis" we can say in truth
Did all of that and more.

He conquered every obstacle,
every challenge that he faced.
There will be others in the backfield
But Jerome can't be replaced.
