Who is going to replace him up the middle? With him and Harrison out who are the four linebackers?

Also...I am thinking this is a good thing. We need speed on defense against these pesky Pats.

Sylvester is replacing him

Well looks like I'll be getting my wish of having Ward and Farrior out. I'm already sure that Brown and Sanders can more than handle Hines' role. But it's too bad Sylvester's first start is going to come against arguably best offense in the league

I am not so sure I would wish for injuries, however I am hopeful Sanders can pick up for Hines. However, even though Farrior lacks in coverage I am little concerned about Sly. Hopefully he understands the defense and is able to play solid pass D.

I'm not wishing for injuries at all. C'mon man.

Sylvester will probably be in for more than he can handle today but it'll be interesting to see how he fares.

any update on NE's Green-Ellis? Last time I saw he was questionable. I'm no longer worried about anything on defense because nothing has told me it makes a difference.

There isn't much you can do as a defense (any defense). You have to keep applying pressure from the inside, not giving him any space to step up into and keep going after him and hope to derail the timing between Brady and the receivers. At the end of the day, you have to realize Brady is EXTRA good against the Steelers - they have our best player figured out and even when we go to man - they have us right where they want us - Brady will just throw it into the tight window.

If you remember we got away from "Steeler football" according to Farrior. We went out of our way to not blitz and Farrior and co. told Lebeau that if they were going down, at least do it trying. I'm very interested to see how well Sylvester will do or how badly he might get exposed. Someone other than Woodley needs to step up and have a monster game because Darth Cheat will have him pegged.

Really - the onus is on the offense to play up to its potential and keep Brady off the field and come away with touchdowns - not field goals.

Also - I'd say we have an equally big mental psych-out against the Pats like the Ravens have had against us. Until we get past it when it counts, doesn't really matter.

I'm drinking from the half-full glass but at the same time, hoping Brady finally has a bad day. The minute I see us down 14-0 with an empty set backfield and its 3-1 at their 35 yard line I'm done watching the game.

The first line of your post comes across as though that were thecase. I am sure you didn't intend that.

I'm with you though, its good to see the young guys getting the opportunity. I'm sure we'll be better for it the later part of the season if not today.

No Hines Ward. No James Farrior. I love Hines Ward. A true Steeler. I love James Farrior. But this is a blessing in disguise for Pittsburgh. Emmanuel Sanders and Cotchery will replace Ward (who is a liability compared to the two with speed & Cotchery played with the Jets all those years, who played against this Pats D consistently) and Farrior was the only one on defense that is the oldest and slowest. I'm 100% more confident in our replacements this season VS last season. The youth movement has officially arrived in Pittsburgh! (Emmanuel Sanders replaces Hines, Sylvester Stevenson will replace Farrior, McClendon has played very well at nose in place of Hampton, Ziggy Hood at End and Cameron Heyward has shown to be a beast in bear/goalline situations.)

Also, no Bodden, no Dowling for N.E. Shootout anyone? IMHO, this is the most unpredictable Steelers/Pats game in a long time. Either Pats crush or Steelers surprise.

I disagree with you on Ward, I do think he needs to sit out more than he does, but he still contributes a lot. However, I've agreed the whole time on Sylvester, problem is he is probably going to get disected this game, wish they would have worked him into more plays the last 3 games.

Key here is youth and SPEED. We need all the speed we can up against this Patriots offense. Atleast we can have a better time shadowing with youth. Farrior was a huge liability in coverage last season against the Pats. He's just not very good out in the open field. I've seen Farrior play out of position in the passing game long enough to realize Slyvester couldn't do much worse. Get Sly in there. Maybe he'll surprise.

Steelers youth on both sides of the ball will have to play their best games ever.

I've been wanting the Steelers to get younger up the middle since they've moved Timmons outside. I hope Sylvester has what it takes.

Harrison
Timmons
Sylvester
Woodley

That will probably be the starting LB corp next year.

I hope it ends up being a good one.

All of you Farrior haters got your wish, Sylvester got a start and managed to get zeroes across the board. Not a single tackle, not even half a tackle.

thankfully Brady was riding the pine enough for it not to stick out one way or another. Waking up this morning - I'm quite shocked at how poorly prepped the Patriots were - they def came in thinking they had us as usual.

Reading the news - the Steelers said all the right things before the game but afterwards, let it be known that "Brady this and Brady that and Patriots record v. Steelers" was ticking them off and they all took it personal.

Glad to see some fire and a fantastic game from both sides. The combination of vets and youngsters on this team is a championship formula

Behind the Steel Curtain doesn't think Sylvester played well in his limited snaps. I wasn't concentrating on him or when he was in the game, and I don't have a dvr or anything, so I can't really say any more.
