Ward: ‘It’s about the team’
November 15th, 2011

Hines Ward did not start in Cincinnati, and he played a limited number of snaps in the Steelers’ 24-17 win over the Bengals. If the Steelers’ all-time leading receiver has been demoted he is taking it in stride.

“It’s not about me, it’s about the team,” Ward said. “We won the game that’s the bottom line.”

Ward said his health wasn’t an issue, and that the coaches didn’t tell him before the Bengals game that his playing time would be diminished.

When asked if he thinks his play warrants more time on the field, not less of it, Ward said, “It doesn’t matter what I think. It was a coach’s decision to change the game plan. It is what it is. I just have to move forward. I am not going to be angry. I have to go out and continue being the player I am and a leader on this team.

“It’s different. It’s a different role. I am still going to be the biggest cheerleader because I want to win. Whatever I can do to help this team win ball games, giving advice or when my number is called making a play. Just continue doing that and have a positive attitude.”

Ward has 2 rings, a SB MVP, and the numbers any WR would be proud of.

He's got nothing to feel bad about. There likely isn't a WR on this team who will come close to matching Ward's career.

As for this season, right now. I suspect Ward was given the day off, because we have a bye week coming....and I think the coaches wanted to see if Brown could free up Wallace a little bit and draw some attention from the safeties.

Ward is a better option in the slot then Cotchery, so I don't believe Ward is getting benched or replaced. Ward's older, he could use the rest. Cotchery could use the playing time.

Down the stretch we'll need Ward in that slot position to get those quick underneath passes....Ward is great at getting the short / tough yards ....plus his blocking skills are far superior to any WR we have on the team. We have not seen the last of Hines Ward. His lack of playing IMO had more to do with him getting rest.

Yeah, Ward just needed the rest. Cotchery played well in his limited action the last few weeks, and i'm sure Tomlin just decided to give him the bulk of the snaps.
