Bettis goes full bore at practice
Wednesday, May 25, 2005

By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

As Jerome Bettis walked off the indoor practice field with Ben Roethlisberger yesterday, a gaggle of news media quickly confronted the Steelers' running back.

"Ben!" Bettis shouted to his quarterback, who kept walking. "Get me out of here. Give me a ride on your bike."

It was Bettis who left a stationary bike to practice with his teammates for the first time since preparations for the AFC championship game Jan. 23.

And, like riding a bike, "you don't forget," Bettis said.

Bettis took time after the Steelers' 41-27 loss to New England in the title game to consider retirement.

He decided to play one more season, but he had not been on the practice field for the Steelers' first minicamp May 6-8 or the start to their voluntary practices last week. He said he wanted his body to heal from a general beaten-up feeling.

Yesterday, he took his turn at halfback and said he felt fine.

"It was a good rest," Bettis said, "but now it's time to get back to work."

This is definately a good sign..he's ready to go !

Never a doubt in my mind that he wouldn't be back, with the SB in Detriot this year, he just had to come back. I'm soooo ready for the season to start.

I was pretty sure Bettis would return this season, but wasn't positive. I am so happy he is back...he deserves a ring so much...I HOPE THIS IS THE YEAR...this might be his last chance at one (but this is going to be the year...Detroit here we come!!!)
