DENVER (AP) -- Jerry Rice agreed to a one-year deal with Denver on Wednesday and will attempt to finish his career as a backup for the Broncos.
The NFL's all-time leader in catches, yards and touchdowns will be reunited with coach Mike Shanahan, who was his offensive coordinator in San Francisco from 1992-94.
``Mike is a coach who will manage him better than anyone else in the league. Mike views him better than anyone else would. It all just works,'' said Rice's agent, Jim Steiner.
Details weren't disclosed by the team, but Steiner said the contract was for one year -- and that Rice has no plans to play beyond the 2005-06 season.

I was at work talking to some brownie fans today, and they were commenting on wanting Rice. Why? And why would rice want to go to a team where he wouldn`t get anymore TDs. :D

This will hurt his legacy according to some.. same w/ emmit smith.. u can have all the records in the world.. but knowing when to walk away is very important.
I can understand his desire to still want to play though, its gotta be hard to let go.

This will hurt his legacy according to some.. but lucky iam not one of them.Rice Still has the Fire and talent to produce in the NFL, maybe not as a Num1 , but as he showed on the seahawks he can play.He avg 14.3 yards .but in Denver its gonna be hard breaking the top 3, he may have to be a 4. The 3 Wr's rice will be battling for a starting job are Rod smith, Ashley Lelie, and Darius Watts.Rod smith also wears num 80, so rice will prob not the num from since rod smith has wrone it all of his 10 years with the broncos. Also, Rod smith has been a proven and steady leader of the Wr core in Denver.Ashley is very young and talent WR, has been jumping in skill each year of his 3 year stay in denver.Watts a rookie, during this year has showed to be Td threat out of the slot.So rice is gonna have to work , so he can get a starting job. but as for hurting his career i dont see it that way, if a guy has the fire i say go for it. Those numbers in the books can only get bigger ;).

I agree with you in a way jersey. Rice should play as long as he feels he can help the team and doesn't think he is worth more than he is. For the right price he would be a good WR to help with your younger guys and still produce.

I say Git R Done already, he is the best ever! He is not even a good back up anymore, the fire may still burn, but it has dwindled.

His rep is okay with me stat wise. I would dislike it if he was the 4th WR on the Broncos and refused to play special teams or such. I think he might have some trouble getting used to the new duties of being lower on the depth chart.
