PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Santonio Holmes apologized Tuesday for his latest arrest on charges he assaulted a woman.

The 22-year-old Holmes was charged by Columbus, Ohio, police Monday with two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence and simple assault. It was his second arrest since he was chosen in the first round of the NFL draft.

Holmes said in a statement that he was sorry for the negative attention his arrest brought to the organization, and he understands that being a Steelers player demands responsible behavior off the field.

Holmes' attorney has said his client is wrongly accused.

nice statement. is his attorney also his agent? same difference right?

the steelers have made their bed by drafting him, and im gonna give him the benefit of the doubt (even though he and his baby's momma are both probably immature knuckleheads.

but as sb champs already handicapped by drafting 32nd, we cant afford to just piss away a 1st and 3rd round pick and give up on this guy. he isnt big enough or bad enough to be a distraction. the steelers are full of veteran professionals and great character guys. this will hurt them as bad as if it were a 5th or 6th rounder pulling this crap.

Too bad it's not that simple.

Hey Santonio!! Actions speak louder than words so I'll believe it after a few seasons of keeping your ass out of trouble.

I don't know about that tony!!
First rounders anymore are expected to at least contribute a little bit and I'm not just talking special teams, so with the personal distractions surrounding him Santonio has put himself at a disadvantage as far as trying to pick up the offensive system/playbook and look at the big barrel he's put himself over as far as negotiating his contract.
It's a lose-lose situation for both the Steelers and Santonio.

I have been ripping Holmes on this, but even I do not expect him to apologize to her while criminal charges are pending and a civil suit is waiting in the wings. An apology at this time would be an admission that would make it difficult to resolve the criminal case and reach a prompt civil settlement.

The apology will come with resolution of the potential civil case ($$$) & criminal charges regarding what will be described as an "unfortunate incident" and everyone will sing Kumbaya.

I know that is cynical but that is how the world will work out here.

This is what I think about Holmes...
HE IS TROUBLE!!!!
He Is Gonna Stay In Trouble from here on out and we have just wasted our 2006 1st Round Draft pick on a trouble making Buckeye....
I hope the 2nd Rounder does a better job making an impact on our team this coming year and our future in the steel town of PA.. because Holmes will Not be in the NFL or in Pittsburgh any way for very long... we Dont need his kind of help..the only reason he appologized to her is cuz of his agent tellin' him too...
May God Bless You..

My wife was put in the hospital yesterday evening, we are expecting a baby girl real soon...all prayers are appreciated for our family.. thank you

Despite wha everyone thinks.......THIS IS A HUGE STEP FOR THIS GUY!!!!

I mean come on, he hasn't even signed with the team yet, and he apoogized "for the organization." This guy wants to play for us, no doubt about that, and he knows he does not have a done deal yet.

Like I said in previous post, please give him time. People know what the Steelers are all about now, and the guys coming to this team do not want to mess this up, in any way....shape....or form. Would you want to piss off Joey Porter or Hines?

Are you nuts??? I can't believe all the people that are writing off this KID, that happens to be a 1st round choice. Alright he may not be in the typical Steeler mold but that doesn't mean he should just be blown off!! EVERYONE does or did stupid things at this age. In this day and age if you yell loud enough at someone you could be charged with assault.
Did anyone bother thinkin that maybe just maybe she's out for a huge payoff??? Only time will tell... hopefully he is not some kind of wife beating jerk but at least let's give him the benfit of the doubt...innocent until proven guilty!!

Nobody has totally written him off yet but most of us are not going to stand up and support him when he's accused of assaulting a female. I don't know what bandwagon your riding on but I know that the Steelers bandwagon doesn't have any passengers who support this type of player or person. Are we all supposed to support him simply because he's a 1st round pick? The Steelers have lost 1st round draft picks in the past. Players that the fans supported. A loss such as this wouldn't be any more significant than those 1st rounders who were eventually deemed to be a BUST!

In reference to you speculating that the victim may be looking for a huge payoff I'll say this. I live 20 minutes from Columbus, Ohio. I viewed the news casts and I'll tell you that the victim was not the original caller. A male subject who witnessed the attack called 911 prior to the victims call. The scandal theory is a load of crap. It pisses me off when people decide to blame the victim or insinuate that police officers are corrupt or racist in their bold attempts to clear the name of a "PUNK"

A lot of people have chosen to wait for the outcome of Holmes latest charge and I say that's fair enough. I believe that the charge will eventually be dismissed but that doesn't make Holmes "innocent". That simply means that the victim failed to cooperate with authorities. This occurs quite often due to the offender begging and pleading with the victim until she gives in and drops the criminal charge. The authorities have no choice, they're not able to take the stand and testify on the victims behalf because they didn't witness the crime. In my mind that doesn't make him an innocent man. That still describes a troubled young man who just so happened to get a break on a particular charge. Hopefully he will make the most of it and simmer his a$$ down.

Another forum member mentioned that he wasn't worried about the Florida arrest because it was due to a police officer being a d i c k head. We're all entitled to our own opinions in regards to that particular arrest but I don't believe that police officers arrest people just because the officer is having a bad day. If anything the officer would avoid as much contact with people as possible. Believe me, I've been there.

I would also question why Holmes failed to pay his fine from a traffic citation which resulted in a bench warrant being issued for his arrest. I'm sure that someone has an excuse or simple explanation for that as well. I know that in the past I've forgotten to pay a few traffic citations, yeah right. Another example of lacking respect for authority figures.

And if the police didn't exist we would all be merely victims to the biggest and meanest thugs in country. I guess then the B I T C H name would be a good fit for yourself as you're being bullied around by a coward A S S-gun carrying thug. And this is the 1st time that I've heard about the police racially profiling hispanics. So, if you'll allow it, I guess that I'll claim that the few traffic citations that I've received in the past were probably given to me simply because I'm white. I've always wondered why they pulled me over. Now I see how they operate. Thank you for educating me on the police.

If he holds out of camp for even a few days because the Rooney's punish him in the pocketbook - then he will not help us this year, he needs a full and productive camp to help this year. Nate Washington is the WR to watch in 2005 - he has a huge heart and is a great talent.

:boxing: WOW! think this got well off the point. Listen Being a father of children, 7 to be exact. Woman can change a situation, they will use the kids against you. They will use your job against you. There basically evil, specially if they have your child. Remember it was Fathers Day. He was there! That counts bigger than most Fathers out there! Specially ones not married to the Mamma. Yeah he probably did wrong, but I am a forgiving man. Look as long as he gets it together and makes it right with his children and the Steelers. Who in the Hell are we to judge him. I still believe he will be a force in the future for the NATION. Cut the guy a little slack

Uh-oh. Take it from me, I lvive in Dallas, where part of being a Cowboy is a regular visit to jail. This guy is going to be a problem. Fresh out of college, he has three kids, and he's been arrested twice. What is he, twenty-something going on thirteen?

I DO NOT want to see my Steelers become like the Cowvicts. Is this guy good enough to risk the team's reputation? This kind of stuff becaomes a big distraction, and hurts the team. I know, I've seen it here in Dallas.

I can't see Coach Cowher tollerating this. He may have to cut this guy loose -- for the good of the team, and for the kid's own good. He's not likely to grow up until he is forced to. A door slamming on him might be what he needs.

The Steelers organization & coaching staff has a way of changing the way of renegades who play here. I see this happening before the season as fortunate, in that the corrective mechanisms will be in place before crunch-time. Remember, he'll be wanting to fit in with the vets, and they just happen to be Superbowl Champions. They will have his respect, and he will listen to their guidance.

Yes I believe that the Steelers organization can change a wayward individual but Holmes has to help himself before the Steelers organization can help him. The guy has NO MORE room for error. He has 2 strikes and the 3rd strike is already on the way to the plate. If Holmes stands idle and does nothing about his "obvious problem", then he will be called out in a most-pronounced manner.

I hate to say it " But i don`t like this guy already" Guys like him just don`t last in Pittsburgh! I see him 4 years tops here. ONE and only ONE contract will he ever get from the Rooneys! The Steelers organization has a reputation to uphold!
