people think this will be close, with many thinking the home team will win.

i dont. i think the saints tire them aout and much like last week vs the lions pull away fairly easilly in the 2nd half. the 9 ers wont have the fire power to hang.

saints - 31
49ers- 19

moose johnson says if a defender just gets his head around on a pass interference call the ref wont throw the flag.

obviously he never saw the steelers doncos game last week.

damn, d. whitner knocked p. thomas out cold at the goaline preventing a 1st and goal with goal to go, he was out before he fell and just dropped the ball at the 2. what a hit!

the saints are absolutely shell-shocked with 3 TO's in the 1st quarter. they dont even need fire power if they keep capitalizing on all these turnovers. thisw game could be over by the half.

That's more like it.

that first quarter was a bit surprising! Saints look like they can come back and win this one, the niners are aggresive and playing great football on D.

Forced five turnovers and they're only up by 6? I think the Niners are taking a QB this April.

Alex Smith hasn't looked good this game, I agree they will go high for a QB. The Niners defense is stout though, I mean damn, I don't feel so bad about our lack of offense against them with Ben hurt. This is one of the hardest hitting games I've seen all year. Evidently the NFL doesn't have a preference on who advances though cause there have been plenty helmet to helmet's and defenseless receiver penalties that were not called. We would have had someone ejected if we continued to play like that. I love it, nothing is as cool as a defense fired up and just slapping the sh*t out of guys and making plays, but if we were playing that fired up with the crowd like the crowd is now in SF, and hitting people like that, we would have some players out. The Saints caught back up but the Niners definitely can still win, they are just taking the ball from the Saints and smacking them around.

Question for anyone else using Firefox: does NFL.com freeze up your browser as well? I swear the only time I need to forcequit is when one of my tabs is a live game status.

loving the hard hits as well and shaking my head trying to figure out why the league wishes to neuter the steelers.

if by pure chance the 49ers and brownsII/oilersII made the superbowl he would insure defense never wins championships again.

it does that with IE especially on gamedays. nfl.com is turning to pure shit and just about worthless when you want to use it most.

The Niners are kicking their ass, they are just not scoring. They are taking it from the Saints and going almost all the way, but then settling for FG's or having to punt. Usually you lose when all your opportunities amount to 6 or 9 points in the playoffs, but we will see.

so similar to the Terrell Owens catch vs the Packers years ago. Davis even cried like Owens. great game.

i hate to say it, but Jim Harbaugh reminds me of a young Bill Cowher... his whiny ass brother sure as hell doesn't though.

Saints fans must loathe their D-coordinator like we treasure Arians

I don't like either one of them....they look too much alike....same expressions, same demeanor with officials....

shocking. I had thought the Saints actually might be the ones to win it all.

I think the "prevent" defense has seen its best days. These new passing offenses completely obliterate it...almost every time.

Except for our SuperBowl game ( Steelers versus Cardinals ), I must say that, since then,
this 49'ers/Saints game was the BEST NFL game I have seen, in a long, long, time.
Smith was flawless against the more experienced Brees.

I must admit, congrats to the 49ers entire "OFFENSIVE" Line and coaches.
-unlike our very own Steelers' useless, and embarassing Offense coaching this past season. :(

In the last 4 minutes of that game it seemed both Defenses vanished...WOW

OTOH the Saints D-coordinator is being blasted in New Orleans for blitzing on the long pass to Davis on the last possession

Regardless of whether aggression is in the DNA of the Saints' defense, defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and his staff absolutely shouldn't have been blitzing Smith on second-and-10 from the 49ers' 33-yard line, with 40 seconds left.

As contrary as two-deep coverage might be to their nature, and as much as the collective defense might break out in hives if asked to execute the scheme, if ever there was a time to run it, it was with 40 seconds remaining and the opponent 67 yards away from the end zone.

It's flag football - a good QB can shred any defense in the last 2 minutes under today's rules

Saints fans in Atlanta are pretty upset about the loss

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Two men who were rooting for the 49ers over the Saints were shot in the parking lot of an Applebee's restaurant in unincorporated Duluth Saturday night, according to Gwinnett County Police

Police responding to a report of shots fired in the parking lot of the Applebee’s at 2085 Pleasant Hill Drive, found Christopher Middleton, 30, of Stone Mountain, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in critical condition. They also dicovered Corey Adams, 30, of Duluth with a minor graze wound to his head. He was treated on the scene and released.

Adams told Channel 2 Action News that he was at the restaurant celebrating with a friend before the shooting happened.

He said he and his friend were watching an NFL playoff game and rooting for the San Francisco 49ers. He said a New Orleans Saints fan took offense to his cheering and had words with him....

Investigators said all three men had been inside the Applebee’s watching a football game. Ayro became upset with Middleton and Adams and made a comment that he would be back for them and left the restaurant, police said. A short time later, Ayro confronted the two men in the parking lot and fired on them with a handgun.

i had to watch the 2nd half again on replay. what a game. it had just about everything one would want in playoff football.

kind of ashame we dont get to see a rematch of the season opener with GB vs NO.

but then again, its ashame we dont get to see a healthy steelers team kick the shit out of the ravens for a 3rd time in a row after blasting through the defenseless pats.

such is life.

NO vs SF might go down as the best game in this years playoffs.
