I dont like haveing 3 or 4 RB's I wish we had a RB like when Bus was young or even Barry Foster. I hate seeing a guy not get a chance to warm up or get a few carries before the next guy comes in. You could see Bus get into a groove and he could just keep busting 5 and 6 yard gains. Now it seems you got Willie( who I like) Duce veron and whoever else shareing the load and none of them ever geet into a groove like that. Does anyone else see this?

I know what ya mean Arkie..I miss those dayas when you knew that your RB could take it up the mdidle or take the corner and be gone for 7-8 yards...I quess the good thing about what we are doing now is that some of those "fatbodies" get worn out chasing Willie...and dont have the strength left to stop a Power Back....also I can remember from my playing days that I hated two back offences...I equate it to a pitcher throwing the changeup...It really screws with your timing.

The game has changed, But I believe for the BETTER. Yes you have to admit watching the same running back run the same plays over and over, even if they are succesfull, doesnt fill the seats anymore. People want Quick Change and Quicker Plays. You will see more and more tandums in the NFL. The featured back days are gone...It will be much harder for rushing records to be beaten in a few years.

I agree. However, these kids these days can't take the hits the way The Bus could. Most of them fall down at the site of a LB or DB. It's time to change the game back to the day when even QBs where required to take a hit from time to time.

It's called a physical game for a reason!

The young Jerome's are very very rare - maybe 2 or 3 in the league at any given time. We are in the era of platooned RB's. Steelers are out front here. We have the best combination of speed and power. I think the Parker/Haynes combination is the best tandem in the league. Haynes brings the "no-negative" run aspect of the big back that Cowher demands - I like his feet for his size - he gains positive yards. Sorry - just can't trust in the Duce to be there and that is a huge liability. Maybe we get lucky this year and Duce replaces the Jerome role but if I were a betting man, I'd say lets see Haynes first. It is obvious that Cowher likes Duce and he would love to see Duce succeed but I bet he loves having Haynes there just in case and has no problem with Haynes in that role.

Here is how I see it:

Willie = 1200 out 2 games
Verron = 375 out 2 games
Duce = 172 out for 8 games

A bunch of you are talking that the one RB days are over but I beg to differ so here is my side of the story; Tikki, LT,LJ, SA need I say more.

OK I will give you 4 out of 32. Even Tikki said repeatily this off-season he can't keep up that pace and I bet the others also wish they had some one else to relieve them. The ponding in today's NFL is just tooo much for a single RB to be productive for 5-7 years at 250+ carries. Did you notice the NFL commentaries on advising RB to come out early if they 300+ rushes in college. Heck even the NFL want fresh college RB's.

Cowher could have given Willie another 50-75 carries last year but he wants him around for awhile.

Hhhmmm...17 runningbacks last year had 250+ carries last season. If you have a runningback who can take 20-30 carries a game and be productive, you're going to use them. Really the only places where you see a true 2-back system are places that don't have a true #1 back. Even in Atlanta, they've gone away from splitting carries and given the load to Warrick Dunn (280 carries last season).

Of course a coach wants two dependable runningbacks that can shoulder the load together, but if you have a runningback like LT, Alexander, Rudi, Edge, LJ, Portis, you're going to give them as many carries as you can. That's not going to change.

The good thing about Willie is, even if he's not in a groove yet, he can break a long one at any given time.

Arkie,
I've got a runningback wish (though it's almost impossibly far fetched),.....Adrian Peterson. LOL ! I think the reason we see so many rb by commitee scenario's is because total package backs are harder to come by these days. The nature of the game is so much more punishing now,... and alot of these cat's don't seem to take their offseason conditioning to the next level to compensate. But some teams are fortunate enough to have your Lt's, Larry Johnson's, tiki barber's and Alexander's. If you do get a back like that you definetly give him the carries. We passed on Lendale,... so the the best we can hope for now is for Willie to develop and gain at least SOME return on the Staley investment. Humes to me is and will always be a fringe player. And i don't see us being in the position in the Draft anytime soon to aquire the kind of back we need. You won't see backs like Peterson or White every year,...more like every 14 or so.
