So you kill Bambi and all those lil furry animals? I love them all, in fact we feed the squirrels, rabbits, birds and anything else that comes along. Around here, they feed Bambi carrots then they go in for the kill. I never could do that but it is something (deer hunting) that needs doing (or so they say) because of the huge deer population. I personally am not for it. :)

but now, as a proud owner of a pet bird and lizards i am a little more sympathetic to their cause. i would no longer pointlessly kill animals for the sheer sake of killing, unless i planned on eating them

I have 30-06 300mag 45-70 and a 44mag pistol I use on the ones in the back yard

I love hunting also.

Deer: 7mm Rem Mag, 44 Rem Mag, 303 British and Bow.

Boar and Bear: 444 Marlin, 44 Rem Mag

Dove, Duck, Quail, Grouse, Goose - Shotgun; do my own handloading, both lead for upland birds and steel for waterfowl.

And for those small pesky critters - 10-22 Rem Carbine or Marlin 882L 22Mag.

I took one deer up in Maine with the .444 Marlin...BIG MISTAKE! The .444 ranks right up there with the 45-70 Govt...just a slightly flatter trajectory. Well, it was right at sunset and he was going into a swamp/bog. I decided to take his shoulder so I wouldn't be chasing him around in the dark. Used a 260 grain semi-jacketed soft-point. He dropped immediately. When I walked up to him, both shoulders were gone, lungs and heart were wasted....lost a LOT of meat that day. On top of that, it was the biggest buck I have ever taken. Only use it for Boar and Bear now.

LOL what I know about hunting you could put on the head of a needle. It is just something I would never do but I certainly do not feel offended when someone else does it. We have a cottage up north and we give money to and visit the deer sanctuary. It is pretty sad, you see deer with 3 legs and all kinds of different injuries, alot like walking through a Vet hospital with the exception of the vet hospital being humans. I do not get all tied up in it. It is just something I have seen and will not soon forget. A real hunter, in my opinion, (keep in mind I know zero about it) would never harm or maime an animal that is all I am saying. If you are gonna shoot one, kill him don't maime him........pleazzzzzzzzzz :)

Lyn,

In all seriousness. A true hunter rarely attempts to maim. A good, ethical, hunter will know the limit of his weapon....and of him/herself.

I only kill what I will eat....or is a danger to someone.

Lyn
07-09-2006, 01:02 AM
I believe that, I really do. I think hunting is like anything else, the majority of hunters are true sportsman and shoot to kill. Then there are the small percentage who love to maime animals (the sickos). I just happen to have become familiar with the jerks of the hunting world, the ones who will shoot just to shoot and if they shoot off a leg so be it. I honestly believe a true hunter is sure that deer, or whatever animal, is going to DIE before he shoots.:)

out here on white sands missle range we have tons of oryx (antelope like creatures).

the A-10 pilots on training and gunnery missions used to chase herds of these animals around and mow them down with their 30 mm gatling guns for fun. but now, in todays day of peta and political correctness, we only do that to afghani's.

Even though they are big and gnarly...the pics are not quite accurate. They are not quite as large as they try to make them out to be. But they are still way too LARGE for my taste. But, it's nothing a good Bic Lighter and a spray can of WD-40 can't cure! <Evil Laugh>

Remember brother..keep it in the correct order

1) kill something
2) drink 6 pack
3) have someone drive you to the game
4) drink a six pack

You do realize you can eliminate one of those steps by just drinking a half case in one sitting..right?
