Apparently he is a "future NFL star."

Sounds like he is a good find.

his 40 time is prolly similar to troy's. he seems like a smart kid, i'd say he's worth giving a tryout

if anyone is smart enough to learn lebeau's system quickly he's it.

This is what I'm hearing..........that and he's literally a Rhodes Scholar.........maybe he could teach LeBeau a thing or 2?

You mean similar to Hines Ward?? :wink02: It's not even close between him and Troy. Polamalu can close a distance better than anyone on our team and most people in the league. He ran a 4.33 when he was being scouted. Rolle came out of Florida running a 4.68. That's incredibly slow.

I read 4.54 somewhere, and that's about the norm for most db's out of college. for a safety, speed isn't as crucial as being able to diagnose a play.

maybe the 4.54 was his GPA instead of his 40 time :chuckle:

The only good thing this kid has done is be a Rhodes Scholar, but he shows heart on the field and a willingness to be better. He will be a project player through training camp, but i highly doubt he will actually make the team. The Steelers are just signing guys for the shit of it right now

the things our organization can turn people into is amazing so giving him a chance to see what we can do with em sounds like a good idea...

Not a bad backup plan if this football thing doesn't work out, lol.

Well, Brian May (guitarist for Queen) has a degree in astrophysics, so I guess two dissimilar things can coexist.

I like the pick up, hopefully he does make the team and push out Will Allen...

Kid has great character, and will be competing with Will Allen and Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith for a back up/special teams roll.

antonio brown ran a 4.57 at the combine. he then ran a mediocre 4.47 at his pro day. pretty unimpressive for a guy his size , but he sure does look a lot faster with the ball in his hands.

I got as far as the "future NFL star" part on his website and stopped reading.

He MAY be a Rhodes Scholar, but he DEFINITELY already has an attitude problem. His "santonio gene" is already manifesting itself, and he hasn't even played a single down in the NFL yet.

Rhodes Scholar huh? Would he be interested in being our offensive coordinator?

what is he supposed to say?

"Hi I'm Myron Rolle and I'm a failure, and have no idea why I'm trying out for the NFL, I'm going to fail anyway"?

set your goals and aim high. nothing wrong with that.

Aspire to inspire, set to be great. There's nothing wrong with how he highly he regards himself, and he deserves a chance.

Wow. The complaining about the "Antonio Brown 1st Down" thing was one thing, but now immediately elevating Rolle to "Smoketonio" level of arrogance because of one little sentence on his website that says "future NFL star"? Some people around here are just ridiculous.

Sounds like profiling to me. Some people are just ridiculous and need to be quiet more times than not.

In a 40? I'd come close. But I'm about 60 pounds lighter than him :chuckle:

Pro Days and Combine don't really prove much of anything. Brown ran a 4.57.

Can't hurt to have a look at him. He was a very good safety in college, he may just be a diamond in the rough.

True but his knock on him by most scouts was that he lacked speed minus the whole lack of interest in football.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt though. He should be an upgrade over Will Allen at backup so as long as we're moving in the right direction, I can't complain much.

It wasn't his interest in football that you brought up

He may make it off the Practice squad, we'll just have to wait and see. Is the Practice squad where he's at now?

Speed helps at any position, but brains definitely helps at safety. Why not give him a shot?

Well, we are. I definitely like his smarts, and his speed doesn't concern me. As someone said earlier, Brown ran a 4.57. He certainly seems a hell of a lot faster on the field, doesn't he? I'm hoping this kid does well.

But is book smarts equivalent to football smarts? I've seen a lot of geniuses play football and do extremely dumb things.
