I have been on record as saying that unless Ward is willing to take a cut in pay it has come time to part ways. He has lost a step or two, and that is crucial to a receiver even a crafty veteran. I still think with our cap problems he needs to try and reach a salary agreeable to both sides, but I am now on board thinking Hines could be very important this next year.
First with a new OC, this team needs veteran leadership more than ever. A player like Hines could be instrumental in the other guys adjusting to a new system, (or new personality). Second if the new OC decides to implement the running game more who better to have out there than the best blocking WR in the game. Hines still can teach the young guys much and he can help Ben bridging the gap with the new OC.
I was on board in cutting Hines even though he has been a fan favorite not just mine but every Steeler fan out there. I just hope an agreement can be made so he can stay one more year, because after much thought I think he can be invaluable.
