"Da Beard" is about to be history.

Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel will shave his famous whiskers Thursday at Club Diesel in Pittsburgh's South Side.

For the second straight year, Keisel will have his beard taken off in a fund-raiser called "Shear Da Beard" that benefits cancer programs at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh at UPMC.

Keisel's beard became a national story during the 2010 season when he decided to keep it for as long as the Steelers were alive in their pursuit of a Super Bowl championship. The Steelers advanced to Super Bowl XLV but lost to the Green Bay Packers.

Keisel finally shed that beard last February.

The last time he shaved before the 2011 season was on June 25.

This year, however, the Steelers didn't make it back to the Super Bowl. They lost in the wild-card round in Denver to Tim Tebow and the Broncos.

Tickets for "Shear Da Beard" cost $25 per person. That includes admission, first drink, appetizers and entertainment provided by Donnie Iris and the Cruisers and the Chris Higbee Project.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with the shaving ceremony scheduled for 7.

Tickets for the 21-and-over event can be purchased at the door or online at www.showclix.com/event/sheardabeard
