I, too, would be very unhappy if the Pirates would trade Jack Wilson. He is not only one of the team leaders on the field, but off the field as well. Pirates fans are already pissed off at management - I think this would send them over the edge, as Jack is one of the most popular Pirates players, if not THE fan favorite.

I don't have a problem with them trying to deal Burnitz, as his contract is fairly high for a player who hasn't come close to living up to his expectations this season, but I would be pretty damned mad if they trade Craig Wilson or Sean Casey. I think both players have more than proven their worth to this young team.

I was kind of shocked to hear this comment from a team source....

"But that doesn't mean people aren't asking," the source said. "People are really knocking on the door for our relievers."

Huh? The Pirates' bullpen, imho, has been their achilles heel this season by not being able to hold a lead going into the late innings. Other than Gonzo and occasionally Torres, the bullpen has sucked!

Trade an overpaid underperforming shortstop? I'm all for it if they can get some pitching in return.

I'm more than 100% AGAINST IT! That man is one of the reasons the pirates have even been in any games. Any trade for wilson they're forefiting their year away when it's July when Mathmatically they're still in it.

They had better not even think of trading a guy who is the heart and soul of the team. Otherwise, McClatchy and Littlefield will have to hire the Secret Service to protect them from the angry mob that would surely be storming their offices.

As for Burnitz/C. Wilson/Casey - I think Casey will be kept, but both Craig and Burnitz will be out the door very soon if the last 3 games are any indication, as Nate McLouth has started in right field in all of them.

And even with him in the lineup they're 30-60.

WAKE UP!!!!!!

It's time to get real in Pittsburgh about what it's going to take to win. And what it takes is good veteran pitchers to head up that rotation. Jack Wilson is one man among 25. And there are no players on that roster who are untouchable. Angry mob my ass. Nobody cares about because the team has been losing. Sometime you have to dump a popular player in order to WIN.

OK...I'll play along with this....

You described Jack as "overpaid..and underperforming"...(your words)....

What type of impact pitcher would you get for a player the type that you describe?

You blast this kid...and follow it up with "we need good veteran pitchers".....

and I'm supposed to "WAKE UP"??

Clue in on this....keep the Bays, Wilsons. Sanchez's, Paulinos, Bautistas, Castillos.....

keep the Snells, Maholms, Dukes, Gonzales'....

dump..and please...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD...stop signing the Burnitz's, Randas, Hernandez's (both of em)...

Jack Wilson is NOT the problem...throwing away money on has beens and never will be's IS the problem. If we had more players with the drive and determination to win that Jack Wilson has...we wouldnt be anywhere as bad as we are...

30-60 at the break.

Why does anyone get upset at the thought of trading Jack Wilson? Do you want to win or do you just want the Pirates to hold on to your favorite players because you can't do both. Not in a market like Pittsburgh.

That's my point. 30-60 at the break.

It's not like we're the Astros who are within striking distance of the wildcard.

I would hate to see Jack traded away. People in the Burgh already hate Littlefield and McClatchy if they did this they would be despised.

But what if trading Jack Wilson could help the Pirates win more games?

I don't have any faith in Littlefield or McClatchy. I would hope they would win more games next year with Jack. Could they possibly do worse? If so that's scary.

I really don't care about Jack Wilson. He's an average shortstop. If you can get a decent return on him, I say trade him away.

Can I ask what do you really think the Buccos could get by trading Jack Wilson? I agree getting a vet pitcher would be nice. But its not like we are going to get a number 1 pitcher or even a number 2 in return for Jumping Jack.

Derek Jeter - OK
Miguel Tejada - OK
Jose Reyes - OK
Orlando Carbrera - HELL NO
Bobby Crosby - LMAO!
David Eckstein - EVEN
Rafeal Furcal - OK
Khalil Greene - NO
Edgar Renteria - OK
Jimmy Rollins - NO
Michael Young - OK, and very, very underrated IMO

That's only 6, with 2 I think he's even with. And how Omar Vizquel was left off this list is beyond me - he's better than half those guys and he's almost 40 years old. I'd still rather keep Jack - sorry if you disagree. The ONLY way I'd agree with trading him is if we get someone like Francisco Liriano or C.C. Sabathia in return.

It looks like at this point any trades by the Pirates will be for either A. Money or B. Younger prospects.

All Im saying is we have a shortstop who is easily in the top 3rd..if not the top 20% of shortstops in baseball...and this is the guy we wanna trade????

Stop the madness...stop signing piece of crap free agents...and BUILD this team...

Here is my take I think Jack Wilson is tradeable. But I don't want to trade him just to trade him. The guy plays sick defense and has developed into a better hitter then most thought he would.

About the crap free agents. The thing is does any really good free agents want to play for the Pirates since they are a laughing stock every year.

At this point if the right trade was proposed to the Pirates for Jack Wilson. I would have no problem with it.

Exactly. You can get a good veteran pitcher or two without trading away guys like Jack Wilson. It's called spending a little bit more than the freaking bare minimum just so you can make a few extra bucks, something that ownership STILL hasn't figured out to this day. Talent always goes where the money is, and if management opens up their wallets more, they would come - trust me on that. Yes, I want to win. But I don't want to mortgage the future or trade away talented players either, especially young players like Jack who is just entering the prime of his career.

Jeremy, you go brudda!

From far away, where Pirates games are only box scores and an occasional XM broadcast on the way home from work, I don't get to see the popularity, I only get to see what the numbers are. I see a decent guy who looks good because everyone else is so bad. I see Gene Alley, a popular player who was OK.

Would you be upset if the Bucs traded FOR Jack Wilson? Or would everyone be screaming what the heck, we need more than a guy who hits .270 with 15 home runs... hey wait, that's Joe Randa, isn't it? (Actually for his career Wilson is averaging 8 hrs and .263 per 162 games.)

We have a decent enough offense. The problems with the Bucs are pitching and defensive discipline. If we could get some young guys who can pitch in the majors at the end of this year or the beginning of next, then we should move Wilson. He's part of what we have the most of.

The flip side is that the only top shortstop prospect in the Bucs farm system is error prone Javier Guzman at AA Altoona (33 errors in 137 games in '05); the guys at AAA Indy are hitting like .213 and .230 respectively. So we would need a pitching prospect and an infield prospect. But the Bucs won World Series with Ducky Schofield, Jackie Hernandez, and Tim Foli at ss.

Who do I trade Wilson for? Pitching. This team has no pitching. We could have probably 10-15 more wins this season if we had a decent bullpen. Instead we have Matt freaking Capps and Roberto Henandez back there giving away game after game.

How could they trade him, he had one bad season he is going to regroup. he is the leader on this team. WE NEED HIM!!!
