Picked up on FA ILB David Hawthorn in a recent story on Steelers Depot. Interesting if the Steelers could get him for a reasonable amount. Considered somewhat of a 2 down linebacker but then again so is Hightower.

Hightower would have the higher ceiling and very well could eventually be the better player but at this moment Hawthorne would win the job and hold it for the next 5-6 years freeing the Steelers to make a better athlete selection in the first round like a OT or even safety Mark Barron.

One hole filled with an established vet coming into his peak years who has impressive numbers can only help more holes be filled in the draft.

I saw this and would love it. I think we could bring in an ILB for a reasonable price. The OL has to be upgraded. Not sure if anyone else saw the thread on steelers depot but there was talk that we might trade a late round pick for L.Blount-RB From Tampa. Think that would be a solid move. Though I still would like M.Moore brought back.

This is only solid if he can shut his mouth and play ball. I love it when his head is on straight and he is running downhill but there was a reason for the 640,000,000 red flags he had coming out of Oregon.... :banging:

I would be pretty disappointed if the Steelers had to go outside the organization yet again to fill a linebacker spot. That would tell me we wasted picks on Sylvestor

using him if hes truly not capable of filling that role would then compound that mistake. i personally would like to see him get the reps first to judge whether he can handle it or not. sylvester is good depth and special teams player but may never be a 3 down starter. he was 5th rd pick and we got back on that investment if you ask me.

hawthorne would be nice to have if they can get him cheap (unlikely...)
