Steelers host Ole Miss tackle

The Steelers are meeting with Mississippi offensive tackle Bobby Massie today at their South Side practice facility.

Massie is the second offensive tackle that the Steelers have hosted for a pre-draft visit. Like Ohio State`s Mike Adams, he is considered one of the top tackles in the draft though not a top-tier prospect.

Massie started at right tackle for Ole Miss last season, and the 6-foot-6, 316-pounder declared for the draft even though he still had another year of eligibility.

The Steelers have been looking at tackles in recent weeks as they also hosted free agent Demetrius Bell for a visit last Friday. Bell, who started parts of the last two seasons at left tackle for Buffalo, has reportedly signed with Philadelphia.

Scott Brown can be reached at sbrown@tribweb.com or 412-481-5432.

i like this pick ...especially in the second ... revamp the right side of the line with Zeitler and Massie...

Zeitler added a significant amount of lean mass in his college career and used it well. According NFL Draft Report statistics, he led college football with 142 knockdown blocks and had 33 blocks that resulted in touchdowns

According to statistics by The Draft Report, Massie had 102 knockdown blocks last year, tops among tackles in the tough SEC. In his final 29 games Massie blocked for 14 different individual 100-yard rushing games, including two over 200. - Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange

i like that combo on the right side

Massie is a kid that could slide in at #24. Big upside because of youth, size, inexperience and athleticism. He's not as polished as some other OT's in the draft, but I like him better than Adams.

Some were surprised when Duane Brown, Sebastian Vollmer were drafted where they were. I think Massie will be the same this year.

Massie is moving up lately.

Yeah the only scenario I could possibly see for us getting Massie would be to trade out of the first round to the late first or early 2nd then pick him there as he will probably go in the top half of the 2nd. We would get the extra 3rd round pick and have 4 picks in 3 rounds. Plenty of spots to still draft a Guard, Nose Tackle, and Inside Linebacker.
