the german air force just had this simulator installed and it has to be one of the best in the world. the thing looks like a 20 foot tall copy of the death star in star wars. it has a fully functional, moving tornado ****pit in the middle of it, and an almost full 360 degree view is projected on the inside of the sphere. i was talking to the boss of all the people who operate it and he offered me a ride on a down day. he said its better than any imax theater you will ever see. i asked if i had to control it and he said yeah, but that flying a jet is easy, its landing it thats the hard part.

so not only am i gona fly it im gonna virtually crash and burn that sucker! (just to see what its like to be in a plane crash) :bouncy:

Man I am so envious of you! The Tornado is one heck of a plane. Remember, small stick movements.

what do you do that you get this priveledge

what do you do that you get this priveledge i manage the contract for basewide bldg maintenance. but being courteous with the customers and going the extra mile to provide the best service goes a long way.

yesterday we were doing some work in the stealth fab shop and they hooked 3 of my employees with an up close and personal viewing of the f-117 stealth fighter.

last week we were doing some work at the physiological training center. every fighter pilot in america makes a trip to holloman to ride the centrifuge at this center. it spins you around at 9 g's for a minimum of 15 seconds. (a pilot will experience 9 g's for 3 seconds upon takeoff). they will not put someone in a jet if they cannot make it for the full 15 seconds without passing out. all the riders are on camera and they let us go into the viewing room to watch them. their face flaps around and they pass out and go into convulsions. some people crap themselves and lose all bodily functions. i was talking to the facility manager and he said hes tired of riding it cause hes done over 150 rides for testing and making sure all systems are functioning.

ive hinted several times id like to try it and all they say is "you dont want to do that". theres probably liability issues, you know like if i had a heart attack or something, but if i ever get an offer...

oh and the multi million dollar virtual firing range is awesome. its like playing a video game on a 6' x 24' movie screen that shows real life footage with actual m-3's and m-16's that have been gutted and replaced with infra red electronigs and simulated "kick" to the weapon that you can dial up or down. the whole system even has a dude on the computer who can fire back solid paintball sized plastic balls at you while you train with simulated enemies. i asked them to shoot me in the back but they wouldnt. stupid rules and regulations! :dang:
it was cool cause i got to waste some virtual terrorists at an oil refinery and on some desert dunes as they hopped out of tanks. this building is not on my contract but if i do some free floor maintenace, they will let me play with their guns.

Remember, small stick movements. the tornado reminds me of a corvette. it was funny cause i asked him if i could go on a simulated ride and with the language barrier he didnt quite understand, so i asked if i had to manuver the stick (hehe) and he said "oh yeah" but its easy, "house get far, you going up, house get close, you going down".

i dont wanna seem to eager with his offered opportunity but he did offer it and i look at it as a chance of a lifetime.

NM hey! hardwork is the champion of "manuvering the stick"!

i think the tornado is englands arial weapon of choice. (just so you know our new f-22 raptors will waste them.)

Lets hope we don't have any reason to test that theory out!
