From local and wire dispatches

Two more rookie draft choices came to terms with the Steelers, who open training camp at St. Vincent College in Latrobe in eight days.

Defensive end Orien Harris, a fourth-round draft choice from Miami and tight end Charles Davis, a fifth-rounder from Purdue, each agreed to three-year contracts. The Steelers have three of their nine draft picks under contract. Tackle Willie Colon, a fourth-round pick, signed in the spring.

Harris received a $278,000 signing bonus as part of his $1.358 million contract. Davis received a $104,000 signing bonus on his $1.184 million deal. Each will receive the NFL minimum annual salaries of $275,000, $360,000 and $445,000.

Now the next few days rookies will be signing like crazy.

Davies, Well he is a long shot, I feel with Heath & Tuman already set, but maybe a special teams guy....

I am with you on this guy...of all the draft picks this year..I think he has the least chance to make the team

No doubt. I think of Omar, Kevin Colbert and Cowher as the 3-headed monster. Brilliant work over the last several years.

I can't think of too many mistakes. WAIT. Picking wide receivers in the first round. :dang: And Thunder is a Titan.

Mike Prisuta, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers are not close to a deal with first-round pick WR Santonio Holmes, but they are making progress. Steelers chairman Dan Rooney said the team will give him another chance to fix his reputation, but added, "He has to realize this is a great opportunity to be a very good player on a very good team, but to do that, he has to make some sacrifices. He's gotta be on the straight and narrow."

I have said before that I hope young Mr. Holmes does well for us on the field. I also hope that he is able to turn his troubled personal life around. He might well be exonerated from the charges that have been brought against him. But the fact that he allowed himself to be involved in those situations in the first place doesn't speak wll to his maturity and decision maing.
