Or will Ziggy move there? If he doesn't move to the nose, when will Heyward become a starter?

Would you be OK with a 2012 draft which include no nose tackle?

I might think the Steelers will move up in this round to get a NT, maybe Ta'amu or Chapman

Perhaps they don't grade any available nt as starting material

I hope so too. I was  that we didn't take Ta'amu in the 3rd.

If we lose our chance at Ta'amu or Chapman, (I would think if either is there in the 4th we would take one of them) I think they can actually pick up Nicolas Jean Baptiste very late and even Ishmaa’ily Kitchen, of Kent State in the 7th or as a UDFA

Next year's draft if very deep at NT candidates and the team may just be willing to wait it out and get by with Hampton, McClendon, and a late round pick.

My original mock draft I have us taking Fangupo at #4. Either 3-4 NT will do at this point in the draft. Value is there but if it's Fangupo without making any trades, I'd be happy.

If we take a DT or two and a QB I'm happy.

I don't understand all the love for Ta'amu. Here's more proof:

That's what I thought when we took Spence in the 3rd. If they wanted to get a dominant NT that could play right away they would of had to get him in the first round, being that they didn't, I wonder if they have chose to address other issues and go NT 1st or 2nd next year, being that Hampton will be back another year and McClendon is ok.

All that tells me is that we hit a homerun with our 1st round pick! :tt04:

With all due respect, it should tell you a lot more than that about his potential as an NFL pro, much less a successful one.

So you are going to disregard a whole body of work by Ta'amu based on one game where he was opposite a guard regarded as the best prospect in the last 10 years?

Not that Ta'amu is going to be a hall of famer, but he is the best available NT for 3-4 left.

As a fan, I surely hope I'm wrong about him. Obviously the Steelers think something of him to move up to get him in the 4th round

Charges still came up with Ladarius Green, a TE that I liked and I think came in for a visit with the Steelers. That's ok, can't get everyone.:noidea:

the funny part is, guess who Ta'amu will be lining up to practice against everyday, especially early on? He'll get a real fast chance to make amends, won't he.

I hope that DeCastro can help to make him a better player. Ta'amu isn't going to make DeCastro better obviously since he was already shut down by him.

Happy with this draft so far, I just hope we can find a way to maximize the potential yet limited size of Spence instead of wasting away on special teams.

He's going to have to learn to stay lower an play with more leverage, because his size alone won't be enough against the NFL talent he'll be lining up from

But he should learn well from Big Snack

Pick in the 5th round will be either a CB or RB....so far the draft is going well!

They must see something they can coach up...

In Ta'amu's defense you are going up against the best guard that has come out in a long time. Plus Ta'amu won't have to worry about facing him in the pros.

Can we please stop pretending that Ta'amu is already worthless because an elite talent stifled him in one game? That same talent, as well as an All-Pro, will be testing him in practice, he will be learning from an excellent coach and an excellent player ahead of him, and he will be surrounded with high quality talent. He will be asked to take on double teams, and he can do that.

I realize he had no stats against DeCastro and was likely dominated by him. But he is the best guard in the draft and rated the 2nd best lineman behind Kalil in the draft. 3-4 nosetackle aren't suppossed to get sacks, so if he can hold up 2 people we're good. Hampton has averaged 2-3 tackles per game and has 9 sacks in his 11 year career, but his worth is in taking up space and holding up blockers.
Ta'Amu has the size to do that. Throw 25 more lbs of fat on that guy and we'll have an anvil in the middle for a while.
He would have been a decent late 2nd round pick for us and we got him in the 4th.

This was a speculative thread that has been rendered moot. We should join the conversation over here (http://forums.steelersfever.com/showthread.php?t=88843) instead. Carry on.
