Why on Earth did the Colts take a tight end in the 2nd and 3rd round? He barely even used one here. Those two picks really shocked me.

Arians likes 3 Tight End sets remember. I couldn't help but laugh when they took another TE. Classic Arians who loves his TEs. He also is trying to find the next Mike Wallace in his pick of speedy WR T.Y. Hilton. Pagano isn't transforming the team into a 3-4 defense yet however.

Luck's best friend at TE will make him more comfortable in spades and its clear they want him to be able to get the ball off quickly and will try and emulate the Manning/Brady way of doing things.

Not surprised they took Fleener, but pretty surprised they took a TE #3 also.

they lost 2 TE's so they drafted 2 TE's ...if your going to draft 2 , why not get the 2 best in the draft ? one is a great receiver..the other is a great blocker...:noidea:

Dwayne Allen's a pretty soldi receiver too. His blocking's solid for a TE though, he said that it started when he spent training sessions practicing against Da'Quan Bowers while they were both at Clemson.

so sick of arians swinging from belichicks nutsack and trying to copy everything the year the patriots offense did prior. so glad its not here anymore.

his head is going to freakng explode when he realized the patriots have like 4 FB's on their roster and are going to utilize atleast one this season.

the patriots had the luxory of drafting 2 TE's in the 1st 4 rounds 2 years ago... hell they pretty much have 5 picks in the 1st 3 rounds every year.

the colts are completely rebuilding and arent afforded that same luxory. but thats what you get with a twittering owner, a rookie GM and HC who turn over the keys to bruce freaking arians! :toofunny:

Colts hope to use two, and even three, tight ends

The NFL is the ultimate copycat league. And for a team that went 2-14 last season, it’s important to find a successful franchise to emulate.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano, who while coordinating the defense in Baltimore witnessed first hand the challenges of dealing with the two top-end tight ends on the Patriots roster, hopes to put together a similar attack in Indianapolis.

“It is a match-up nightmare,” Pagano said Saturday, via comments circulated by the team. “Coming off of the AFC Championship game, nobody knew better than the Ravens going into that game with the two guys [Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez] that [the Patriots] have. It is across the league. You can see it more and more every year.

“You can choose to put a defensive back on them, and they will be undersized, they will get outmuscled and they will get ‘big-boyed’ for the ball. Then you can put a safety or a linebacker on them and they can’t run with them. So we feel like the two guys that we added, and Dominique [Jones] is a physical presence, that guy is 260 pounds and moving around really well. It is a match-up nightmare for any defense.”

The two guys the Colts added are Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen, taken in the second-round and third-round, respectively, of last weekend’s draft.

Quarterback Andrew Luck took it an extra step. “With three tight ends, do you put an extra safety in [the box] and try to stop the run or do you leave your regular defense in?” Luck said. “How do you do it? How do you match-up with those guys? Do you put a linebacker on them to cover them when they split out wide? So I think it creates mismatches.”

That would be a nice change for the Colts, given that they typically were on the wrong side of the mismatches in 2011.

Also......there's no guarantee that Arian's is going to run the exact replica of the Pittsbugh offense. He's bound to change up a few things for sure.

This is what I thought, he may have thought his play calling was genius, but when they showed him the door he may have realized it sucked and decided to change things up big time.
