David Decastro 52 -Mike Webster
Mike Adams 75 -Joe Greene
Kelvin Beachum 70 -Retired Ernie Stautner (I forgot about him, thanks below for the correction)

Sean Spence 31 -Curtis Brown
Alameda Ta'amu 74 -currently Colon, maybe next year he'll get it?
Chris Rainey 3 and 1 -no single digits for backs allowed.
Toney Clemons 7 -won't be seeing that number huh?
Terrence Frederick 7 -big ben says no

David Paulson 42 -Damon Cromartie-Smith so it's possible if Smith gets cut.

Kelvin Beachum 70 -JACKPOT!. No #70 on the roster, but will Beachum make the roster?

#70 was retired for Stautner

Yeah...I would have double check that before saying that about 70. How could you forget Stautner? He was a monster and one of the best ever.

Few of them actually do wear their college numbers, time to move into the big times. Its only a number.

I have vague memories of a man called Stautner that was a mean SOB even when the game was over. I wasn't even a dream yet of my mother and father's yet when he was playing however. So no draftee gets his college number. I stand corrected and kudos to the fans that knew about #70. You know your Steelers.

So actually David Paulson is the only draft pick that could wear his number here next year and that is if Cromartie-Smith gets cut.

Thanks for bringing this to light. This shows what a horrible draft this was. Amazing that they didn't see this insurmountable problem in advance. What were they thinking? Perhaps next year they will plan ahead better and draft guys whose numbers fit in with the team better.

90 players go to camp. There aren't enough numbers to protect any but the superstars. If 88 and 82 can be worn, 51 can.

blasphemy, #88 is a hall of famer. you don't make it to the HOF being 'not special'

Look, his ego got on my nerves and I loves Stallworth! What can I say but 82 was the man...

While I don't think Farrior was great enough to have his number permanently retired or anything (not that he wasn't awesome but only the GREAT greats should have numbers retired), I do think it's a little weird to reissue his number so fast. Thought they'd at least wait a few years before reissuing it.

They didn't issue 86 to anyone. That's a better standard.

Looks like the offseason is boring us all to tears when threads like these are posted.

Whatever. There are no rules against light convo here, and this is exactly the right time of year to discuss number assignments.
