The Steelers announced the signing of two seventh-round picks, which means they are more than halfway done with signing their draft class.

Tight end David Paulson and cornerback Terrence Frederick both agreed to four-year deals with the team. They join tackle Mike Adams, nose tackle Alameda Ta’amu and wide receiver Toney Clemons as 2012 picks that have signed their contracts. Four more picks remain unsigned, including first-round pick David DeCastro.

Paulson caught 67 passes and 10 touchdowns while at Oregon. His ability to make himself useful as a receiver will likely determine whether or not he wins a roster spot. Frederick had six sacks and four interceptions at Texas A&M and projects as a slot corner. Special teams work will probably be his lot as a rookie.

The Steelers held their rookie minicamp last week so Paulson and Frederick have already begun the process of getting to know their new roles.

Steelers sign two more 7th round picks

May 9th, 2012

The Steelers now have signed two more 7th round picks. The team came to terms with TE David Paulson and CB Terrence Frederick. Both signed 4 year contracts. Both guys have a real shot to make this team.

That brings the Steelers up to 7 of their 9 picks signed. The only two players left are first round pick David DeCastro and 7th round pick Kelvin Beachum. Having these players signed is such a nice thing. We do not have to worry about it up until August. I hate when guys miss camp. This is one good thing about the new CBA.

Steelers Agree To Terms With Seventh-Round Pick Kelvin Beachum

Posted 5/10/12

The Steelers have agreed to terms with the last of their four seventh-round draft picks from the 2012 NFL Draft, guard Kelvin Beachum. Financial terms of the four-year deal were not disclosed.

Beachum (6-3, 303), who was the 248th overall pick, played collegiately at Southern Methodist University. He started all 52 games he played at left tackle during his collegiate career. As a senior, Beachum was selected to the Lombardi Award and Outland Award watch lists and named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team. Beachum earned first-team Conference USA honors after his junior season. In 2011, Beachum blocked for an offense that scored 336 points and racked up 5,052 yards of total offense.

Beachum also had an impact off the field, serving as a student representative to the SMU Board of Trustees and as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He was also on SMU President R. Gerald Turner's Commission on Substance Abuse, the Student Affairs Leadership Council and the SMU Athletic Council.
