Grant Ressel must still be all messed up as they released him after rookie minicamp. How bad do you have to be to be released from a rookie minicamp when your the only kicker there?

Now the pickings are real slim.

I've been working out. I'm ready, coach.

Maybe he complained about Haley's new playbook being difficult to learn:noidea:

Any other kicker/s coming in? Steelers need some good competition for OTA's.

Steelers are trying to bring in some competition, this from Steelers Depot:

"Veteran kicker Dave Rayner was brought in for a visit this past week and the Steelers also had put in a claim for kicker Jake Rogers following him being waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Dallas Cowboys were awarded the waiver claim on Rogers instead."

Isn't Longwell the obvious choice in available kickers? I understand he is at the end of his career, but we don't neccesarily need a long term kicker right now, we need a kicker that can make the kicks this year and then look for a long term kicker next year since there are not any long term solutions available right now.

that's why they should of drafted one....instead lets wait and then not even get a top UFA kicker ... i don't think anybody really expected Ressel to really be competition

I'm really not all that upset with Suisham, he's not great or anything but he's pretty reliable inside of 45...it's not that easy to get even that in a kicker. People act like it's easy to just go out and get a kicker who's automatic from 50+, like all you have to do is draft a guy in the 7th round and he'll do that for you. With Suisham, we don't have a Pro Bowl kicker or anything but getting anything better would really be a luxury at this point.

If Suisham is kicking this year, it's hardly the end of the world. He'll miss a a couple, and he might not kick a 60 yarder in a blizzard at Heinz in overtime to win, but he'll hit just about everything he has to to win games.

Yeah, instead of Rosetta Stone, he needed Kicking for Dummies

One of the Nicks from San Diego should be available at end of preseason.

I wrote this on a now kind of dead post but I think Kapinos will be hard to beat out.

Kapinos is pretty damn good. 45 yard average and almost 30% downed inside the 20 last year. Kicked in a Superbowl.(3 for a 51.0 avg) and a really good playoff cold weather game against Baltimore averaging 48.5 on 4 punts. Drew Butler's avg his last two years in college was around 44. Kapinos has proven the big games don't throw him off his game and he hasn't made a mistake. We got lucky he was still around last year to resign.

For the record Suisham was 74.2% on 31 kicks last year.

The slim pickings at kicker:

Dave Rayner 72.2 % career. 8 teams in 8 years.

Ryan Longwell, Age: 38. (courtesy of Walterfootball.com)
Ryan Longwell didn't hit at least 83 percent of his field goals in a season for the first time last year since 2005. He went 22-of-28, though he did nail 2-of-3 from 50-plus. He's actually 10-of-11 from that distance in the past four seasons. (indoor kicker mind you with at least 9 games inside)

They bring in an entire team for rookie camp. They want to have all positions filled for the camp so that they can scrimmage. They already know nearly half of them won't work at all.

Let's hope that the offense will score enough points and will not need a field goal to win games.

If we can win 4 Super Bowls with Gerela, we can certainly win with Suisham!

Suisham may be a very accurate kicker in the regular season but his playoff FG percentage is something like 50%. The guy is not clutch. I'll be disappointed if he's the guy on opening day.

He's not clutch at all, we don't attempt much of anything past 40 cause they know he will likely miss, and he still missed some easy one's on top of that. Since there is only one good kicker on the market we should be looking at him, and that is Longwell. That will give us a year of solid kicking and we can draft a kicker in the 6th or 7th next year.

Damn! I hoped that kid would make it. Definitely a position we need to upgrade. Seems like we win and lose several games a year by 3.

well if they dont get one now they can always scout training camps and preseason games and if one is cut loose that is better than suisham then jump on him then! wouldn't be the first time that happened!

personally, I believe that's exactly what the Steelers will do if Suisham is even a little bit shaky during the pre-season.

Thanks for the refresher, I forgot all about Bahr.

Yes, back in those days we didn't need to worry about a kicker. Amazing to think back on that dominance.
