Steelers Sign Seventh-Round Draft Pick

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers announced they have agreed to terms with rookie running back Cedric Humes to a multi-year deal. Financial terms of the deal were not released.

Humes (6-1, 233), who was chosen in the seventh round (240th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft, gained 1,805 yards rushing during his career at Virginia Tech and scored 21 touchdowns. He started nine games as a senior for the Hokies and led the team in rushing with a career-high 752 yards and 11 touchdowns. Humes rushed for over 100 yards in three of his final four contests, including a game-high 119 yards in Virginia Tech's Gator Bowl victory.

Following the signing of Humes, the Steelers have inked five of their nine draft picks.

Ya, I feel Humes has a chance to make a HUGE impact for a 7th round pick.

First thing he needs to work on is not putting the ball on the ground as much as he did in college...

4 more to go.

Cowher told Stan last night that there are negotiations going on as we speak between the Steelers and Holmes. That's all I've heard/read locally.

I hope Humes doesn't get cut, he was one of the few players i predicted the Steelers would take in the draft. I had never even heard of Anthony Smith or Willie Reid when we drafted them!

as i said in another thread, i saw this kid play alot, and i really like him, and think he is underrated. I also trust cowher and the staff with RB's after willie who came out of nowhere (who cowher has his eye on for a while and talked about him a lot) and verron haynes has turned out pretty well so far. I really, as some others think here, think he could make a big impact

I have a feeling he might be among the first batch of cuts. He just didn't make any sense to me.

If you hadn't heard of Willie Reid then you don't watch much college football.

Yeah, this guy could end up being the sleeper pick of our draft. It will be interesting to see what he progresses into.
