As expected, FB/TE David Johnson was placed on the Waived/Injured list Monday, the result of a torn ACL suffered in the Steelers' 24-23 loss at Philadelphia in their opening preseason game.

To replace him, they signed veteran blocking TE Justin Peele, a 10-year NFL veteran who last played sparingly with San Francisco.

Johnson's designation exposes him to waivers, and gives teams a chance to sign him. If no one does, his rights return to Pittsburgh, who then place him on Injured Reserve.

Wrecked his knee. Torn ACL/MCL.

"'Waived injured'

and that's the end of that Steeler saga - too bad for him

MarkKaboly_Trib By waiving David Johnson injured, teams can now pick him up and stash him on 90 man roster until final cutdown day then

MarkKaboly_Trib “@mwelchpgh: why waive Johnson?”he was UFA next year anyways. Now they can immediately fill his roster spot if not, had to wait till 9/3

Wouldn't be surprised if the Patriots took him. They grabbed a TE from the waived/injured list of the Giants. They really love tight ends.

According to Steelers Depot, he has some experience at fullback.

yeah, in 10 seasons...that's roughly an average of 12 catches for 100 yards and 1 TD per season for you math majors.

Justin Peelle has mostly been used to block in 2 TE sets, and if he makes our roster (unlikely) he will do so because of his blocking ability and not his receiving skills.

He's almost assuredly a camp body + insurance policy in case somebody else is injured. They still have Leonard Pope, Weslye Saunders, Jamie McCoy, and David Paulson behind Miller.
