I understand it is a preseason game but if are pushing player safety you have to fine roger-cromarte.You don't need time to study the tape is was clearly a illegal hit.Had it been a steelers player making the hit the fine would have been placed before we returned to pittsburgh.Get off your but Goodell.

DRC said it was a perfectly legal football play. i guess thats good enough for goodell.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie thinks his dirty hit on Byron Leftwich was clean

I don't know if it falls under the category of denial, self-serving bias, lying to the media or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is really, really giving himself the benefit of the doubt, but he believes the following hit was perfectly clean, and that is goofy talk.

I believe fines are typically handed out mid-week, so I expected he should be receiving notice tomorrow or thursday. I would be very surprised if he doesn't receive a fine.

Yep. On some occasions fines are handed out on a Tuesday, but most of the time it's mid week.

I think Rodgers-Cromartie gets teed up - Goodell could care less what the Steelers think but he does pay attention to big dogs in the media like Peter King

Goat of the Week

Philadelphia CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, for his irresponsible launching and shoulder/upper arm cheap shot of a defenseless Byron Leftwich, the Pittsburgh quarterback, in the preseason game at Philadelphia. Rodgers-Cromartie is in line for a significant fine -- maybe six figures. I think it's worthy of a suspension. That's one of the most egregious hits I've seen in the league in the last couple of years -- worse than James Harrison on Colt McCoy, because you could argue that Harrison thought McCoy was a runner when he lined him up to hit him. Rodgers-Cromartie launched himself in violation of a well-publicized rule, and then hit Leftwich in the head in violation of a well-publicized rule. Luckily, Leftwich walked away, seemingly fine. The next victim may not be so lucky.

Latest update: Goodell states the hit was legal at the defensive player thought #7 was still in at QB. The rulebook clearly states that there are no personnel fouls or fines assessed when the player on the receiving end of the infraction is in fact a Steeler and is wearing a #7 or #86 or is playing in a position where the defensive player might mistaken them for #7 or #86.

However, following the guidelines attached to the above rule, he is considering fining Harrison for the hit.

i thought leaving your feet to deliver a hit was illegal in today's nfl, especially to a non-runner. apparently these rules don't apply during preseasson or something?

i don't think it could be any more obvious, i mean, even the extremely biased commentators on that game said that hit was illegal in today's nfl

It's starting to get curious that there's nothing being said about a fine well into Wednesday already. It will be truly shameful if there isn't a fine for what was a textbook violation of the rule the league is most adamantly enforcing.

it's not unusual for fines to be announced on Thursdays...

Ain't happening. There is no consistency whatsoever in Goodell's fining of players. And it gets curiouser and curiouser that the Steelers get fined right and left while their opponents get away with murder.

be patient, there is definitely a large fine coming. it's just a matter of time, Goodell needs to come down hard on Cromartie in order to retain whatever shred of credibility he has left...

Penalty forthcoming
The NFL will reveal by the end of this week what punishment it will hand Eagles cornerback Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie for his hit Thursday on Steelers quarterback Byron Leftwich.
While Rodgers-Cromartie thought the hit was "clean," he was flagged for it and some are calling it a classic illegal grand slam -- late, launched, high and to a quarterback.

Maybe the announcemnt of the fine for the Leftwich hit will be bundled with an announcement Vilma's suspension has been reduced (the hearing in district court in New Orleans on the 16 week suspoension apparently did not go well for Goodell) - that way Goodell can still look tough
