Mewelde Moore, remember, is on this Colts team but I’m surrpised they have no other former Steelers with Bruce Arians now running the show. I mean, Chris Kemoeatu is still available to jump offsides.:chuckle:

ive been interested in getting good looks at baron batch and sean spense, just not at the expense of those ahead of them on the depth chart going down.

should be fun to watch mclendon and c. carter tonight (hopefully theyre out of there early).

My guess is starters play the first quarter which is good since I am not planning to watch the whole game and be up until midnight ( as opposed to 3 weeks from tonight)

Same here, I'm going to watch for improvement from last week. The first team looked pretty good minus minor some rookie jitters but I guess that's to be expected at this point in the preseason.

The only thing that concerns me with the 1st team is the run D is looking very soft. Timmons is not looking impressive at all, and carter definitely is no james harrison (who is, though?).

We aren't getting any pressure at all, I'm hoping it's just because we're playing a vanilla scheme.

Keenan Lewis has allowed some catches but solid overall coverage. Was hoping to see more batch than dwyer in the 1st half.

Rainey is definitely not faster than wallace, i'm not even sure if he's faster than AB

Ike got beaten badly on that cortez allen INT play, if the receiver hung on to that ball it was a touchdown

Dude, this is pre-season. You've got 2nd and 3rd stringers out there who have given up the yardage and points. 1st team D looked good - even without Harrison. These games are auditions for guys trying to make the team - don't take them too seriously.

Our game has been pretty bad so far. We only have 14 because of a lucky play (no pun intended). Really disappointed that with the penetration we have been getting to the QB that we haven't sacked him more and our defensive backfield seems really bad tonight. Hopefully we will tighten up the second half and before the regular season.

Rainey hasn't even tried to put on the jets this game, from what I've seen. He's not even as fast this week as he was last week, and i'm not sure if it's lack of effort, or something is bothering him injury wise. He's beat Jeff Demps in a race, and I KNOW Demps is faster than Wallace, so I wouldn't doubt Rainey's speed at all.

Damn, the first team defense stood strong the first two series' and then had the pick 6 the next. Looked great! Since then they have given up yardage on almost every play. Maybe they stopped caring lol? The new screen looked good on offense, other then that the 1st offense didn't look good.

Team is really "mailing it in" tonight. I certainly hope they have a LOT more to offer in a regular season game.

Rothlisberger - C
Batch - D -- why is he still on the roster?!?
Secondary - F -- apart from his pick, Taylor has been a disaster

Sanders punked on a potential completion before the half, giving Indy a FG opp, which they convert.

Finger on the remote...

Right now Im starting to get worried about our depth on Offense

RB position is hammered to hell

OL can't get/keep a unit together and adams is struggling/injured

WRs- Not having Mike and the transition to Haley's O is going to make it tough to keep the chains moving

Speaking of the chains....I think we've been in too many 3rd and longs

Still time, but A lot of kinks to work out and injuries/holdouts aren't helping

At this point Ben's going to have to play exceptional until the rest of the O catches up

Fire Arians
08-19-2012, 09:55 PM
Ramon foster actually hasn't looked bad at RT. He's better there than Adams is at LT, which isn't saying much, but I thought he played ok. Adams isn't ready yet, hopefully he will be next season.

where are sanders and cotch? it seems like AB is the only receiver who can get open and make a play

dwyer definitely isn't as good as redman or mendy. I want to see baron get more looks with the first team

Limited playlist for Batch on 1st and goal after blocked punt = ........FG. Never even sniffed the end zone. Again -- WHY IS BATCH ON THE TEAM??? There are plenty of stronger, more mobile, more versatile backups. He's a 37 year old journeyman. Montana retired at 38. Bradshaw at 35. Marino and Elway at 38. And these were guys that played at a high level.

And to to add insult to injury, the defense is on roller skates.

No one is panicking over the Steelers' ineptitude. These "preseason vanilla games" set the tone for the team in working on their gameplans (in this case, offensive futility and defense in "I'll wait 'til the season starts" mentality).

I expect a big roster shift this week. These guys are horrible.

Settle down, it's the pre-season. Why is Batch on this team? Because we win when he's in the game, and he's a VERY reliable backup. As far as i'm concerned, he went 3-5 for 16 yards today, and that's a pretty good day for a backup in the pre-season.

Compared to last year, yes. Turnovers, and just big plays in general, we're scarce.

C'mon now., Batch has the mobility of a potted plant, and an arm to match. It was Johnson's mobility that made the last drive work. Period. Batch's career was over years ago -- only the talent around him kept him on the roster. I was stunned that front office didn't go after a viable replacement in the off season.

Imagine if Ben went down for the season in the first game. Batch is simply not capable of carrying the team.

The D better get their act together before the "rematch" with Denver also. Recall that the current backup for the Jets made us look silly in the playoffs last year, and now they have Peyton Manning under center.

people upset ben throws an intercedption (hell he looked in midseason form with one of his typical boneheaded pics).

we're set and good to go at qb. i dont understand all the gnashing of teeth. are people still worrying themselves sleepless at night about ben getting hurt? thats what he does.

Over years ago? Wasn't he one of the players that helped lead the Steelers to a 3-1 record during Ben's suspension just two years ago? Batch has the mobility of a potted plant? Hmm. I just seen you expressed worry that Peyton Manning is under center with Denver, but you forgot to mention that he's a 36 year old immobile quarterback. I'm assuming he should have "retired years ago" too, huh?

Come on man. Nobody's asking Batch to carry the team, and he STILL DOES. He's great when called upon, and he's showed no signs of letting us down yet. If mobility is his only problem, i'm cool with it. Not sure where you got that his arm is bad, though. He just threw for more yards, and finished with a better pass percentage than Ben, and only threw one more pass.

The point is, if you're worried about the team at this point...

You're not gonna have a good time.

My dad's friend lives out near Anaheim and apparently there are Steelers bars out there. So the LA Steelers wouldn't be so bad....:chuckle:

Again, I'm not usually the worrying type, but I am surprised how there's not even a bit of concern from some that our O line still looked bad, the second team defense was terrible, and Ben didn't even produce a FG. He gets credit for the TD to Brown as he should, but Brown made that play. I will have to rewatch the game to be certain, but I'm not sure Ben even set foot on Indy's side of the field. We're the Steelers and I tend to stay confident because of that, but look what happened last year. Week 1 was an embarassing blow out, Week 2 beat the Seahawks. Week 3 Ben pretty much just laid in the backfield and we were one bad throw away from being embarassed BY CURTIS PAINTER. Then Houston made us look like amatuers the following week. All I'm saying is: just because we're the Steelers and have been used to being sucessful doesn't mean we're always ready. I'm definitely not saying "be worried", I'm just not wearing rose colored glasses.

My fan-hood of this team was passed down by family. I've NEVER been ashamed of that. With it, I'm not hitting the panic button at all. It's PRESEASON people! 3rd stringers playing 3rd stringers. I got one thing for those hitting the panic button ... :sofunny:

I'm gonna look at some POSITIVES - Did anyone even SEE #18 on offense? Pretty impressive. He added a blow to Mike Wallace after the Antonio Brown TD. Potential deep threat?? I think so!

- Every RB seemed to have at least one big run. Again, The O-line is dumping the potential though once again. Dwayer was impressive to me. B. Batch? Not so much. Hell, even newly signed Ford had some highlights.

- J. Johnson played calm and did well *AS A BACKUP* of course. What, KEEP Byron Leftwich??? Sorry fellow fans...it's time for lefty to go! What has he done as backup?

- Charlie Batch is fine. Yes he is getting old. But I realize he's here still for a reason. The guy has some wisdom with his aging. He's proven reliable and can still read defenses WELL. Give the guy a break. He's earned his roster spot. Has Lefty???

- I saw at least one effective screen pass. A catch + the extra effort for a first down.

It's too freakin early to be worrying so much in the NFL. I think many of us take for granted all the success this team has had. It will go on to win time after time. But the roster is 53 people. We're just finding who fits the right roles.

And I give a :hatsoff: to Indy. They are no Baltimore Ravens. They are no New England Patriots. You get the point. Have a little RESPECT for other teams? :noidea:

I'll save the superbowl dream. It's one *preseason* game. We'll be okay. :tt04:

I fail to find ANY way to disagree with any of that. Pretty much sums it up.

And yet we finished 12-4.
