The injuries keep on coming

The Steelers' injury situation at linebacker went from bad to worse when it was learned backup inside linebacker Stevenson Sylvester will be out three to four weeks after tearing the medial collateral ligament in his knee.

Sylvester is the top backup to inside linebacker Larry Foote. His injury means rookie Sean Spence, the team's third-round pick, will get more playing time and veteran outside linebacker Brandon Johnson will move inside for tonight's preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts....

Chris Carter, last year's fifth-round draft choice, has been the starter at right outside linebacker and will play there again tonight against the Indianapolis Colts.

Ed.B. of the P-G says Spence has impressed the coaches - IMO Spence gets a lot of reps at ILB tonight

Rookie linebacker Sean Spence has a real chance to play some this year, especially if there is an injury at inside linebacker – or even outside if Lawrence Timmons has to move out there to play. Spence is on virtually every special team and he’s been a big hit so far starting in the spring.

Jesus man.... 3-4 weeks don't seem like a long time though for a tear. Might be ready for week 1 or 2 if we need him

Agreed. We don't practice in rough conditions, some teams are practicing in 90 degree's and up. A lot of the players injured are pretty young like Sylvester, Redman, Adams, and Worilds. Last year everybody was hurt, young and old. It's getting ridiculous. The argument will be made that it's normal and every team has injuries. While this is true, not every team has as many and as severe as we have. Compared to most of last season, we would be considered "healthy" right now. Flukes happen, but this is going on back to back years which is sounding less and less like an anomaly and more like a problem that may have a solution (training staff).

As for the injury itself, that seems like a really optimistic time for a torn MCL IMO (I'm no doctor). Hopefully he can get back to speed within the first few weeks of the regular season. The only upside is we may see more of Spence tonight.

cant blame the conditioning coaches. james harrison is probably one of the most well conditioned atheletes in the world.

LB and RB are brutal positions to play and injuries are part of the game.

There are always lots of injuries on every team. I guess we just hear about them more often with all the social media and instant gratification and whatnot.

Regarding Spence, I expect to see him playing some snaps at both inside positions tonight. Should be interesting. I hope the injury doesn't preclude Brandon Johnson from getting some reps outside though.

sucks for him

I think our ST can survive a month without him - he was never gonna sniff a starting spot
