Come on. Suisham may be the 31st or 32nd kicker in the league, but you never wish that on anybody. You're probably joking, but please don't say stuff like that.

With Sylvester still injured who plays ILB behind Foote & Timmons?

If Harriosn and Woirlds cannot go in Denver wonder who even dresses at LB?

Bad vibes coming out of preseason

Ben does have a valid point. However, Spence was injured on grass today, so his comments look sort of bad.

This really sucks. Usually I take injuries in stride but I really wished for the best for this guy and wanted to see how a rookie with true football instincts play.

I wish him the best of recovery and hope that this is not a career-threatening injury.

Devastating injury and a tough loss. Regardless of what anybody thought of his play in the preseason, nobody can deny that he seems like a great kid with a sense and a hunger for the game. Tomlin's reaction and fist bump to him on the back of the cart said everything that needed to be said of what the team thinks of this young man. I'm gutted for him even more than I was for DeCastro.

Adding in all of the injuries, this has to be the most unpredictable final roster cutdown in several years. With Spence's injury, do they ride with just Brandon Johnson as the backup interior linebacker? Does this open up a spot for Adrian Robinson, even though he doesn't play inside? How bad was Mortty Ivy's injury; is it possibly he's re-signed, or was it bad enough for that's not an option? Because he'd be looking pretty damn good right now. Do they keep 2 or 3 QBs? 2 or 3 TEs? 5 RBs PLUS a FB? 8 or 9 linemen? Can you go into the season with only 4 WRs and 4 CBs? So many questions. I don't envy the decision makers tonight. I was going to post a 53 prediction, but I don't know if I'm even going to attempt one now.

Sean Spence is believed to have torn ACL, LCL, dislocated kneecap

That ugly knee injury suffered by Steelers rookie linebacker Sean Spence has generated an understandably serious initial diagnosis.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Spence is believed to have a torn ACL, torn LCL, and dislocated kneecap.

Spence, a third-round pick from Miami, undoubtedly is headed to injured reserve. Hopefully, itís an injury from which heíll be able to recover in time for the 2013 season.

I just saw the injury on the highlights, horrible looking. He's young and strong and should be able to come back from this injury in time. So Spence will get an injury "redshirt" year , he will be at our facilities rehabing after surgery and be good to go next season, hopefully to step into the starting lineup. I really like this id, When/if he comes back he could very ell be another in the line of great Steeler LB's.

Get well Spence!!

Coming back from a torn ACL is difficult. He will get the best attention possible, but he will possibly never be the same player. I cannot think of many players that tore an ACL and came back just as they were. Jerry Rice and Rod Woodson come to mind, but that's it. Rod seemed to take a couple years to be fully back too.

Sean Spence is 22 years old. Rod was already in his eighth year as a pro when he tore his ACL, so i'm not worried about Spence or DeCastro as far as injuries go.

I'll just pray for a injury drought - I mean, can we get a dry spell for a while please? How about a 19 game stretch without 1? I mean, you can throw in the usual Ben broken nose, pinky toe thing, but why don't we just stop it there? Pretty please?

EDIT: Could we have a separate thread where we make some sort of verbal sacrifice to the injury gods before game-time? Pour a little drink to Jobu?

It's not so much that its just another injury. DeCastro does not have a tear, so he should be fine. Spence is another story. The ACL does not heal, it is completely replaced with a graft. No matter how much mobility and all that jazz you gain back, it is not the original. I am sure he can still play at a high level, but I am also certain that he will never completely be the player that he was. It is very rare that a player comes back and you don't notice a difference.

Wow. This is certainly not what I was envisioning the day after the draft. So far, our #1 has a potentially season ending injury, #2 doesn't seem to be able to grasp the speed of the NFL, and our #3 just blew out his knee/ACL. Who would've predicted that?

Wanna know who the most nervous player on the Steelers is right now?....Whoever got drafted #4.

You know, after giving it another thought seeing Farrior again wouldn't be too surprising given the depth at LB is getting killed.

we basically lost all our backups. ivy on IR, sly injured, and now spence. who's left?

while i don't think farrior is going to play again, it wouldnt surprise me if they brought him in for depth, we are hurting at ILB

With all the injuries, Farrior would be like a warm blanket, comforting the locker room
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_WjTiPvD0otk/S_cDSoFH-gI/AAAAAAAAAA8/C-HwG3VC8E8/s1600/Walls-PeanutsLinus.jpg

I'm not saying he is perfect - but his familiarity with the defense, chemistry with team, and leadership I would think would be more suitable than picking someone else up, just MHO

Steelersfan87
08-31-2012, 02:35 PM
1) I doubt Farrior's anywhere near game shape. From all reports, it sounded like Farrior's moved on with his life's work.

2) Mortty Ivy was not put on IR, he was waived injured. I have no idea how bad his injury was though, but were I to guess, it would probably be enough to keep him out of Denver, and by then, Sylvester will probably be back. I think they can get by with Sylvester and Johnson backing up in the middle.
