View Full Version : Managing the Other Clock

So, what's the deal with us struggling to get off snaps until the play clock is below three seconds? Time after time we're snapping when the clock hits 2 or 1. It seems predictable(When the clock hits 1, the D can simply jump), and also seems to contribute to false starts.

The thing is, what is Ben doing for all this time? Sure, he adjust plays and calls signals...but a big piece of these seconds he seems to just be standing there. Watch Manning opposite him and compare their use of the clock. Manning will audible and build an entire formation and play from scratch, and still snap at 5 seconds. Meanwhile Ben often appears to be staring at cloud formations.

I'm not down on Ben as our QB, but this has been a pattern for years. The only reason we didn't take 5 for a delay of game this Sunday was because the replacement refs are morons and gave him a T after the clock had already run out. Ben is no rookie...he really shouldn't be struggling to beat the clock every other play, IMO.

I wonder if that's all on Ben, or if the coaches wanted him to wait until 1 second to take more time off the clock?
