and the media lackeys keep saying they have done a "good," or "solid" job or "there haven't been any major gaffes"

If you call consistently missing ball placement, a potential interference call that shouldn't have even been brought up, and a gimme to the Steelers on Redman's knee being down, then yea - they were fantastic

NOT

Timmons played much better today. Played well in coverage and batted away two passes, he played better in the run game, and he helped get some pressure on Sanchez. The big hit on Sanchez rattled him, bad ass to see a play like that again. Timmons wasn't a total beast, but he looked a lot better.

Yep, Santonio Holmes lost his hands too after Sanchez got a broken jaw. Timmons deflated Sanchez with that hit. Clark also layed a great hit on Holmes. Holmes is a little ****** and I was hoping to see him wobble off the field like shonn green. Nice hit Mundy... Running game wasn't the same after that smash either.. our physicality took their whole team out of the game.

I just hope that Goodhell doesn't take the fight out of the dog with fines. Mundy seemed to play better in this game. I think he plays better off Ryan Clark than he does with Polomolu. He knows where Clark will be. Polomolu not so much.

There's much weeping about that hit on the Jets forums. TBH, I'm kind of surprised it didn't result in a fine. When you watch it in slow motion from a few angles, it was way late. Jets fans claiming it was premeditated to ruin their QB make me LOL, though.

in all seriousness, that will be a fine. hitting the qb in the head, even shoulder-first is gonna be penalized/fined every time in today's NFL.

I don't like it any more than any of you guys, but we gotta accept that's just the way it is right now.

Yeah, after seeing it again. Big fine Incoming!!!

I would have to admit, after watching the frame-by-frame it wasn't super late. Less than 1.5 steps, Sanchez made a move downfield, Sanchez also DID NOT slide forward. He tried to continue to make a play and so did Timmons but Timmons will still get a fine.

Also, that Pass Interference call on Taylor/Clark hit is hilarious. Taylor gets burned, doesn't even get a hand on the guy, and still gets called for the Interference, you gotta admit it's kinda funny...

The interference they were likely trying to call was the forceful removal of Santonio's mouthpiece when it got blown 20 yards downfield after that hit.

Has Timmons ever received a fine in the past? I do not recall.

If not, then the fine better not be more than $27,000.00. That is the fine amount the guy got for leap frogging
right into Brian Leftwich's chin in the second or third preseason game.

Yea, I'm not sure what dropoff they're seeing. He looked like his normal self after that to me. Also, whining because he took a single helmet to helmet? Not even a broken nose, knee to the head while being choked on the ground, or such? Come on. Ben's wife probably wakes him up Saturday mornings with shots harder than the one Sanchez took.

"You're out of your ****ing mind!!! Timmons launches himself helmet first like a ****ing missle!! You are taught two things when tackling - get low and wrap up. Not launch yourself head first at the ball carrier.

At the end of the day, what you, me or anybody else on the board thinks doesn't mean shit. The league will have their say.

After most hits like this you will see more sayings on this forum like "he couldn't do anything about it" and other things like that, not on this one. The players have so much on their minds playing the game that I don't know if they even think about fines, but you got to wonder if some of them just don't care. Harrison's hit on McCoy was total BS because McCoy originally tucked the ball and Harrison was preparing to hit a ball carrier. Timmons' hit was similar, but Sanchez had the ball up and Timmons seemingly had more time to make a decision of how to hit. It may not be how many others think about it, but if the players are willing to risk a fine for a big hit, then I'm all for it.

I may be in the minority on that, but I'll let the players worry about their money, I just want to see a big LB smack the other teams QB head on and get in his head. I suppose that would be considered "dirty" in today's league, but it's the way football has always been played. It's just like the intro video on NFL Network where you here a player in a pep talk say: "We're gonna look 'em in the eye, and we're gonna punch 'em in the mouth". The players haven't changed, just the rules.

When youre watching in slow motion a lot of hits look late... The hit wasn't all that late but it was a high hit on a qb.

Let me clarify a little. It really looks like he saw the ball come out, and instead of pulling up he lowers his head and steps on the gas. Maybe it was just bad timing, but I'm pretty sure the league will see the same thing.

Not saying I didn't love the hit, mind you. Just that I think if he wanted he could have pulled off a little.

The Tate hit looked clean to me. He turned and saw a defender coming in for a play, and came at him. It looks like he caught him square in the chest with his shoulder and helmet. It seems to flag and fine are for him being "Defenseless". So he should have let him finish the play just because he didn't bother to be aware of his surroundings?

Timmons not happy with $21,000 fine

by Joe Starkey

http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1380725/sanchezcrush_medium.gif

Lawrence Timmons got the dreaded at FedEx envelope at his locker this week -- the kind the NFL sends to players it has fined. Timmons said he was fined $21,000 for his hit on Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. "What can you do? I was just playing ball," Timmons said. "I lowered my target like you're supposed to do. I can't help it if he slides or falls. It's a tough spot to be in." As for the fine, which is the NFL's minimum, Timmons said, "Any time you get fined, it's a lot of money." The take here? The fine was fair. I hear what Timmons is saying about Sanchez's helmet suddenly lowering, but Timmons launched himself like a missile.

The NFL was right with this one.

sorry man, but in today's nfl rule book it was an illegal hit. still hit the quarterback in the head whether he hit with the shoulder or not. and there was helmet to helmet contact making this an easy call.

like everyone else here, i prefer the old rules and hard hitting, but that nfl is in the past and we gotta accept that.

now if he hit sanchez in the chest instead then i would be saying that's a BS fine
