Mike Wallace: The "one-trick pony" with many tricks
One of the more unfair monikers out there is that Mike Wallace is simply a "one-trick pony." He's shown that's he's a lot more than that.

Wallace was targeted 11 times against the Raiders and caught 8 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. He even added an end around.

Tell me if this looks like a one-trick pony based on the routes he was targeted against Oakland.

1 - Dig route (incomplete)
2 - Quick slant (7 yards)
3 - Deep in (16 yards)
4 - Short slant (14 yards)
5 - Screen (7 yards)
6 - Stop-and-go (incomplete)
7 - Deep in (22 yards)
8 - Go route turned into deep in (22 yards, TD)
9 - Dig route (5 yards)
10 - Settle down in soft spot of zone (14 yards)
11 - Deep in (incomplete)

"Go route turned into deep in".

AND he can improvise! This means he's fast. Has great hands AND he can run tough routes.

Bring it on, haters.

Now let's see comparision stats with Fitzy and Megatron. ;)

Calvin Johnson: 24 catches for 369 yards and a touchdown.
Mike Wallace: 17 catches for 234 yards and THREE touchdowns.
Larry Fitzgerald: 14 catches for 181 yards and a touchdown.

Wallace has scored more touchdowns than all of them, and that's all that matters.

I can agree with that, steel. At least step up and make big plays. We all know Brown did.

Mike Wallace was on a tear last season too, then he fell off the cliff.

Let's see him step up in a big game or in the postseason, and we'll see how good he is.

Thats what i'm saying...All great wideouts show up when i counts....Brown has been average at best, but he did not want 10 mill a year...lol

Brown...... 10 rec-160 yds-0 td's in 3 playoffs and 1 SB.... Not very good
Hines Ward ..... 88 rec- 1181 yards- 18 td's..... Thats a player

Bottom line...We have way to many holes to fill to pay Wallace anything close to what he wants....BR7 will pump up any wideouts stat line.

I am fine with Wallace but do feel he is still more of a one trick pony than an all-around receiver.

My gripe with him is I didn't want to lose AB for the sake of keeping Wallace.

AB is now signed long term.

I don't care if Wallace stays or goes now. I don't feel he is irreplaceable, but yes we are a better team with him on it.

I am glad Mike is starting out well, let's see where he is towards the end of the season and playoffs (if we make it there). As much as I believe defense wins championships, even I must admit the NFL is becoming a pass happy league and we will need Wallace to continue to be great on Offense. It's hard for me to say this but we may have to settle for defensive mediocrity to keep pace with the way the NFL is going.
