as shocking as it was to trade holmes for just a 5th round pick, its amazing how much better this deal keeps looking year after year. being that we essentially replaced him with stud antonio brown, its possibly our best deal of the decade.

It wasn't so long ago that the New York Jets were expected to get rid of wide receiver Santonio Holmes. After the wide receiver was essentially booted off the field by his teammates for quitting in Week 17 of the 2011 season, there was wide speculation that Holmes wouldn't be back in New York.

Holmes and the organization made up in the offseason, largely because Holmes' contract made him too difficult to dump. That's why we'd expect him to remain with the Jets in 2013 despite the serious foot injury that should keep him out for the rest of 2012.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News notes that Holmes is due $7.5 million in guaranteed money next year. That's a sunk cost. Even if the Jets wanted to move on from Holmes after his Lisfranc injury, his contract will likely prevent it from happening.

There's also no chance another team will want to trade for Holmes at that salary coming off an injury. The Jets and Holmes seem stuck together, for better or worse.

The better question here: Will GM Mike Tannenbaum be around to make the final decision on Holmes next offseason?

Sometimes doing the right thing (cutting loose a locker room cancer) also turns out to be the smart move

Since the Jets have lost their best receiver there is only one who now can save them:thumbsup:

The Steelers still need him as a Red Zone threat.

As a diehard Jets fan we just have to look for the positive and hope for the best. We have now have some serious issue moving forward as we are plagued with injuries and hurting on offense. Sanchez needs to stay in the game for now. Ryan needs to use Tebow as a true wildcat and keep him in the game, not just for 3 plays.

i am astonished how many pundits and talking heads really believe inserting tebow will cure all ails, and that he can re-capture the once in a lifetime anomaly magic from last season.

so how do you feel about holmes going forward? i was put off how he threw the ball down when he suffered his injuries (amongst many other things he has done since becoming a jet).

you guys certainly didnt get the steelers holmes you were expecting when handing him all that $$$$
