So, i have been a fan of his for a long time, but have finally come to terms he just doesnt have it anymore. So, do we make him the #2 corner next season or attempt to transition him to safety or just part ways? Im inclined to mive him to safety, any thoughts?

My thoughts: there's already a thread about Ike (currently, two threads up).

Well since they were threads only about bitching and complaining, i figured i would start a more positive thread

More positive? Somehow Ike & positive does not rhyme very well in the sentence.

Problem is he's no longer 24 and doesn't have that 4.3 speed anymore. When he got beat, he was able to recover and make plays, now, not so much

I agree, just looking for opinions, should we drop him or transition him to safety or drop down the depth chart? I think he could be a good safety especially since troy is injured more often, mundy is failsauce and we need some better depth if we bring rookies.

I feel bad for him. He went from being shut down to getting shut down pretty much in one week, but last night convinced me, he doesn't have it any more. I still a faint glimmer of hope that it's just mental, and he can get it together again, but it's probably false hope.

Agreed. It's not speed alone that is his problem. He was an excellent CB all last year till we went to Denver. He didn't just lose a step between Week 16 and the Denver playoff game last year, but that is when he started declining. I'm sure over time he has lost some speed, and possibly he lost a bit during the off season, but what I see is a guy trying to do to much. He's always playing off his WR and then tries to jump the route. Another example is how he always gets up talking crap, even if the guy just totally burnt him, he talks and often times exchanges "pushes" even then. IMO he's embarrassed, keeps getting burnt, and wants to make up for it. No doubt he's not as fast as he was 4 or 5 years ago, I just think there's more to it.

That said, I am in favor of getting new CB's all together. I don't see Ike pulling out of it, he's had 5 games this year and looked bad in all of them except the 2nd half vs the Jets. The game has long passed by tackling CB's who play far off of their man in coverage.

i don't know he's looking a lot like chad 'mr. pass interference' scott lately. i guess it's either that or getting burned for 80 yards against scrubs like d. thomas

The best thing Chad Scott did for the team was go on IR in his first NFL game ever. After that he was a total liability.

Seriously a positive thread? On IKE? Lets create a new position to save Ike. Maybethat is a positive comment.

How about re-reading your post. Change IKE to the #2 corner? So your plan is to tell the opoosing QB "hey Mr. QB, we put Ike as the #2 CB, not the #1 shutdown guy. So please do not target him first?"

Transform him to safety? How about transform his ass out and save the money?

Watching Ike play corner is painful. He's just straight mugging WR now. It's not even suttle!

actually this is false. ike is still one of the top 3 fastest on the team and has the straightline speed to hang with any WR. Until this year, I have never really noticed how many receivers hes been glued to running down the field, and how they get away with grabbing his arm and throwing him off his stride. britt did it last night, just like maclin did the week before and i think heyward bey (4.3 speed) 2 weeks before that.

the problem is the book is now out on taylor and after all his years in teh league, teams have finally figured out what steelerfans have known all along.

ike taylor cant catch.

not only does he have hands of stone, he doesnt play the ball well (which is probably a residual effect of him having hands of stone).

teams are no longer avoiding throwing at him. there is little risk in doing so, even when the man is covered.

hasselbecks passes were rainbow lolli-pops tossed up for grabs. if teams throw deep on ike it is usually resulting in a PI call. he's doing it more because he is thrown at more.

teams are also using more slants and crossing patterns with their "deep threat" wr's against him.

just saying that ike is slower now is giving absolutely no credit to other teams who might be experimenting (denver in playoffs) and doing their homework & devising a gameplan to attack a specific players weakness.

its in ikes head now and he is definitely overcompensating with the penalties. perhaps he isnt getting away with alot of the hand jostling he used to be able to get away with as well. :noidea:

We need a new DC. One that doesn't neuter DL and forbid them from shooting gaps and crushing the pocket, and one who doesn't merely require mid round DB's who can't play the ball because they're only supposed to wrap up after the catch.

Offenses have it easy enough in this modern era of football. You don't need to make it easier by escorting them down the field.

you think a new DC is gonna scheme a bunch of chumps into a superbowl winning defense?!?!?!?
