View Full Version : The HERD: PITT will dominate the rest of the season

Another week, another pat on the back from Colin Cowherd.

He talked about the three WRs being equally as good as one another: like having three #1s. BB is looking great. Long drives that eat up clock. And, getting the top two RBs back, plus Dwyer, makes for a lethal offense. "Best skill people in the league." Plus, the O-line is looking good... and they're getting DD back.

Defense looks solid: not good, but solid... and Polamalu is coming back.

Summation:
PITT will dominate the second half, will be the hottest team going into the play-offs, and could easily be in (& win) the SuperBowl.

too bad ike is the worst CB in the league, troy, harrisson, keisel, and hampton are old and slow, and we are hamstrung by that washed up hanger on DL (otherwise known as coach lebeau). :jerkit:

I like his optimism, but this team has played some bad games against bad teams and has finally won two in a row, against a couple of average teams.

Let's see how they do against NY and Balt before planning the parade route, but I do like the general direction of the team.

I'm also less than optimistic that we are going to keep the injured guys healthy once they return. Troy didn't even make it a full game. Woodley tweaked his hammy already. This could be a problem all year.

we'll start being the trendy pick when our offense starts lighting up the scoreboard. we were never the analysts favorite picks mainly because the steelers offensive players never were guys who blew up fantasy stats

Wasn't this the same guy who said our window was closing seven weeks ago? It's amazing how smart he got lately.

Troy may give us half a year, Harrison does look slow, as does Keisel and Hampton.

This year the offense is going to have to win it.

This year the offense is going to have to win it.

And if after 8 weeks they're starting to do this, they're capable of winning it. They can only really go up from here at this point. They're going to be a threat late in the season and are going to start taking teams out pretty handily in the coming weeks. Our defense doesn't have to play spectacular, just good enough as Ben is capable of getting this offense to control the clock and score points.

This isnt good. Front runner usually means choke by this steeler team.

The good news... No one else agrees with Colin. Ergo, they won't be front-runners (until they beat BALT, twice in three weeks).

Colin smart.
Colin likes BB (when no one else does).
Let everyone else be wrong.

They could go up or down from here. If the defense gets more injuries, and/or Ben goes down, it could bottom out.

No more injuries and Troy returns and is playing well, sure, sky's the limit.

Recent evidence points to something in between. I'm thinking 10-6 is the ceiling, maybe 11-5. 9-7 probably good enough to get in the AFC playoffs if the tiebreakers fall right.

Two games this year, where BB was NOT sacked.

Healhty indeed. And, with a healhy BB, the Steelers ALWAYS have a chance at the Lombardi.

1. As Colin says, "He is allowed to change his opinion, once new facts come into light." And, those facts are that the O-line has been better than expected.

2. He is pretty accurate that the window for those players (Troy, and the rest of the 30-year olds) is closing. The Steelers will replace them... sooner than later. (Whereas, for AB and Pouncey, they still have a decade of wearing the black & gold.)

The O has the potential to be amazing but it has yet to play a complete game. It struggles to finish teams off. Ben knows it. He admitted after the 'skins game. If they can be more consistent throughout the entire game and put teams away, then we'll have something to crow about and wish for.

I guarantee you that if Eli lights us up and the Giants win, we'll be "old and slow" again to him.

He wouldn't have to change his mind so often if he would avoid making sensational statements like "the Steelers will dominate from here on out", and say that perhaps we have the potential to make a NY/GB-type a run if we get healthy, some young players continue to improve, etc.

But balanced, reasonable opinions don't sell advertising on his show.

He never said they were "old & slow." He said that the window for this group of players is closing. There's a difference. [He always said that once this group of players leaves, the Steelers WILL replace them with elite talent, because "that's what they do; look at their draft record; it's phenomenal."]

And, he was on PITT's bandwagon when they were 2-3 (and everyone else, including Steelers fans, had them as dead).

If the NYGiants win, he'll simply say that was expected, because he feels that the NYGiants are the best team in football. But, it wouldn't "surprise" him if PITT won, because PITT is talented on offense, specifically BB. [He said very similar things before XLV: GB should win, but it would surprise no one if PITT won, because they know how to win big games & they have BB.]

Heck, some STEELERS fans on here, were predicting a 4-12 season... and calling for LeBeau's retirement, because he was playing "old & slow" players (like Ike)... and then, all of a sudden, when the offense starts clicking, and the defense stops committing penalties, the sky's are once again blue. Again, that was STEELERS fans being completely hot & cold... so, an impartial talking head being slightly wishy-washy is not all that unexpected.

that's why it is just safe to say "the Steelers I saw in the 2nd half, the Redskins game - that team can contend"

The status quo will not win them a Lombardi - they need to get even healthier, stay that way, and also score a shade more on a consistent basis

Greg Cosell was on The HERD this morning, talking about how awesome BB is. He said something along the lines of:
"BB is already a HOFer... and now with Haley coaching him, BB is EVEN BETTER."

He went on about the quick passes, and that on 3rd downs, BB is looking dangerously good (as in: not only is he able to escape the pass-rush, BB is not making those quick reads. Defenses have to pick their poison:
--rush him & die by BB hitting a quick pass
OR
--drop back & wait for him to scramble around, and find a receiver... which he ALWAYS does.
