Any news on how he's doing? You guys expect him to play this year?

Latest report that his progression has stalled. He was making strides, but it seems as though he won't be back, especially by how the way our O-Line has been playing recently. No rush for DeCastro now. No need to rush him back if we're playing this well up front and risk further injury. Lets get him on off-season rehab and get him back 100% healthy for the 2013 season.

Damn that sucks. I agree that our O line is playing well so there would be no need to rush him back, plus I don't want him to rush back anyway, but I was hoping he would be back to full speed in the next couple of weeks. Someone else on that O line is going to get injured and we're getting pretty thin. Gilbert's injury that was at first labeled minor seems to be pretty major, Pouncey hasn't had the best luck staying healthy, Starks missed a practice, etc. So while I don't want to see a change to the line, I sure would like to have a fully recovered number 1 pick available if someone goes down. Once Gilbert is back I will worry less. but when Starks missed practice I got pretty nervous. Beachum would get destroyed at either LT or RT and the though of resigning Johnathan Scott makes me drink.

Got a link stainless? Not questioning your update, but I'd like to see what exactly was said. Him and Spence have me worried that they'll never be back. Sounds paranoid but there have been plenty of young players who never really recover from injury. If those 2 picks don't pan out that will just add more to the list of positions we need to draft for, and that list is already 4 years long or so.

I seen one of the beat writers on Twitter pretty much write him off, and another say he'd be ready by the final quarter of the season. Believe it was Ed Bouchette and Gerry Dulac.

Wasn't he our #1 pick?

The Steelers are quiet on what's going on with him. There's no need to rush him back with the way Foster has been playing, but it seems like they're intentionally keeping us in the dark on his progression. I haven't heard any news from Tomlin on any stalling of progression or setbacks, so grain of salt with all local media.

There won't be any significant news until he actually starts to practice. Once he starts to practice, the Steelers have 3 weeks to either activate him or put him on the season-long IR. That's why they're being so cautious before having him get back to practicing. Plus, as already mentioned, he's not really needed at this current time with Foster and Colon playing well for the most part and with Legursky as a solid reserve.

I love how every time they show a shot of the offense sitting down on the bench and the coaches talking to them DD is in the coach's hip pocket. He's almost like an assistant coach.
