Charlie takes one big hit and he is done. We HAVE to sign a QB by tomorrow. Period. There is no one left on the depth chart.

Obviously. Kafka though? I dont see how that even helps us for the Cleveland game. What is Kafka going to do with 5 days of prep time with our system? I expected them to sign Johnson or someone familiar with Haley's playbook.

Based on Lamarr Woodley's comments, I was sure it was going to be McNabb.

A younger player that could get the job done in the right system? Least he wont break first hit!

Brian Hoyer is also being looked at.

He played decent in spots for Philly. When he started he sucked! I think this season is too important to piss away. I'd like to see McNabb back there until Ben is ready and should we need to go to the back up again. Everyone points to the season in Washington even still he threw for 3,300 yards with four games left. Washington has RG 3 and they still suck, they sucked worse back then. I don't know anyone who would take Leftwich over McNabb, that doesn't even sound right

He has an injury history - you do not get an interview as backup QB for the Steelers if you can stay healthy

In the preseason, Kafka played in the second quarter in game one, but he broke his non throwing hand. He was benched for the rest of the preseason, and finished with a quarterback rating of 23.1, with zero touchdowns and one interception

Before the KC game I was seeing a Super Bowl run....now we're talking about Kafka, Burress, can we hang on to the wild card, can we even beat the browns....what a week.

The way Colin Kapperwhatever is playing tonight as a back up, we need a young QB to develope in this years draft!

bring him in for a workout, he may be a decent pickup running a similar offense in philly.

he's still young and could eventually fill in for a longer term backup

it is a bigger risk than someone like mcnabb though

Report: Steelers to work out QB Kafka

By Terry McCormick | National Football Post

http://gcobb.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/MikeKafka3.jpg

Former Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Mike Kafka will work out for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday, according to a report on ESPN's halftime show from Monday night.

Kafka was a bit of a surprise cut this summer by the Eagles, who released him in favor of rookie Nick Foles as Michael Vick's backup.

The Steelers are in need of a quarterback as they now turn to third-stringer and long-time backup Charlie Batch to start this week against Cleveland. Ben Roethlisberger suffered a fractured rib and separated shoulder against Kansas City.

Then, Byron Leftwich broke two ribs in Sunday night's loss to the Baltimore Ravens, leaving Batch as the Steelers only healthy QB.

Any available free agent QBs right now are going to suck. Seriously.. We are looking for someone to come in and backup Charlie for a week or two, then become third string or cut altogether.

Hmmm, Bradys backup! Started in 2009...
2009 season

Despite being invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, Hoyer was not selected in the 2009 NFL Draft. He signed immediately after the draft with the New England Patriots.

Hoyer debuted in the Patriots' preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, completing 11 of 19 passes for 112 yards. In the preseason finale against the New York Giants, Hoyer played at quarterback the entire game, leading the team on a comeback after trailing 210 in the first quarter to a 3827 win, completing 18 of 25 passes for 242 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions.

Hoyer finished the preseason 29-44 for 354 yards, including one touchdown, with a 98.1 passer rating, which ranked 30th among quarterbacks.

Of the four quarterbacks behind Tom Brady during training camp, the Patriots released Matt Gutierrez, Kevin O'Connell, and Andrew Walter, leaving Hoyer as Brady's only backup when the Patriots made their final cutdowns on September 5.

He made his professional debut on October 18, in the second half of game against the Tennessee Titans. On his first drive, he was 5/5 for 35 yards, concluding it with a 1-yard rushing touchdown, which set a franchise record for points scored in the Patriots' 59-0 win.

[edit] 2010 season

Hoyer entered the 2010 preseason as Brady's only backup. During the preseason, Hoyer completed 32 of 57 passes for 471 yards and three touchdowns, with one interception and four sacks. He saw his first action of the regular season late in a 3414 loss to the Cleveland Browns, throwing his first career interception. In Week 17, against the Miami Dolphins, he threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Tate, the first touchdown of Hoyer's NFL career.

[edit] 2011 season

Although the Patriots drafted quarterback Ryan Mallett in the draft over the summer, Hoyer retained his role as Brady's primary backup. In the preseason, Hoyer threw for 296 yards on 25 of 42 passes with one touchdown and no interceptions.

Hoyer saw only limited action during the 2011 season; his only pass attempt was the Patriots' final attempt of the 2011 regular season. The pass, which head coach Bill Belichick asked offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien to call, was a 22-yard pass to tight end Rob Gronkowski to give Gronkowski the NFL record for receiving yards by a tight end.[1]

On August 31, 2012, during final cuts, Hoyer was released by the Patriots.[2]

There is that. Very much unlike Mike Kafka, Donovan McNabb, Tyler Palko, and all of the others we are discussing, who have signed multiple contracts. Maybe we can trade for Joe Flacco.

I would pick Hoyer over Kafka because of more experience and better stats. Plus playing behind Tom Brady has to be worth something.

Jerrod johnson needs to be brought back. He's a big guy who can run if he has to. And if it comes between kafka and hoyer I think id take kafka just because of his mobility. We can't have statues under center so the defense can just tee off on them

He's playing in the UFL. I suppose over there his dominance over a bunch of guys that are now delivering pizza on game days was good enough to make a team.
