Steelers waive rookie WR
Wednesday, June 15, 2005

PITTSBURGH ? The Steelers released free agent rookie wide receiver Tavaris Capers from their offseason roster, the team announced today.

Capers (5-8, 174) signed with the Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Central Florida on April 25, after not being selected in the 2005 NFL Draft.

A two-year starter in college, Capers finished second on the team in 2004 with 36 receptions for 514 yards (14.3 avg.) and four touchdowns. During his junior season in 2003, Capers led UCF with 67 receptions for 585 yards (8.7 avg.) and seven touchdowns.

The WR group is pretty stacked right now w/ vets and young talent, so this will give this guy a chance to hook up somewhere else atleast.

Wow, they kept rookie Nate Washington over him. He is Tiffins greatest WR of all time, I think they are like Div III.

Ward, El, and Wilson are locks for the team.. other than that, its pretty much wide open..although I think fred gibson is a pretty safe bet too.. so that makes 4 slots and we normally carry 5 WR's so the competition will be fierce for sure. We may carry 6 this year though, so we'll see.
