Holmes' trial date reset for Aug. 24
Friday, August 11, 2006

By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The jury-trial hearing on domestic violence and abuse charges against rookie receiver Santonio Holmes has been postponed until Aug. 24 because of a conflict in his attorney's schedule.

Holmes was scheduled for a hearing at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio, before Judge Michael Brandt. But his attorney, Sam Shamansky, was granted a continuance because he is involved in another trial that day.

"Plus, we need to get some additional information," Shamansky said.

The new trial date for Holmes is the day before the Steelers' third preseason game in Philadelphia. Shamansky said he still does not know if Holmes has to be present for the hearing.

Holmes, the team's No. 1 draft choice from Ohio State, has been charged with domestic violence and abuse -- both first-degree misdemeanors -- against Lashae Boone of Columbus, who is the mother of his third child.

At least it won't interfere with any of our preseason games.

This still might go away.....this kid needs to stay focused on football...I'm hopin they can come to an agreement that will make this date unnecessary

I would think it would be in his best interests to be present and face the jury. Every criminal sheister (lawyer) I ever worked with was adamant about that.

You're right, 203, this might all be resolved before that date. I don't see how the prosecution has much of a case with the alleged 'victim' refusing to testify, no medical documentation of her 'injuries' and is still involved in a relationship with Santonio.

Trial date is to start on my 21st Birthday.

I think the case will be dropped by then.

I wish they could have kept the first date just to get it done and over with. I know that it's preseason, but would like him to be able to just be able to concentrate on football. If he really did this thing then he needs to face the penalties but given only what we know about it, I'd like it to be done.
