True, but if you go for it at least you're not giving them an extra 7 yards because of the spot.

need some changes folks. Something has to change. Colbert has a big job in front of him.

He needs to find someone to revive the anemic offense. This was on Ben and the offense. I just dont understand why he has just screwed the pooch 2 times in the last two weeks late in the game.

Now we all have to listen to Ben say its on him . Its all on him. Well so what, that doesnt make anybody feel any better. There is no excuse for the pathetic throws that Ben has thrown in key situations.

That is 2 games in a row he has cost the team .

Well, this was their last chance to prove something.

The offense just didn't play with any sort of heart or feeling.

I feel bad for the D, who really did try.

And I feel bad for Suisham, who was given a shitty snap and then forced to kick beyond his range on a play SHOULD have been a punt (and for the second time this season, no less) - that one IS on Tomlin, and might have been the play that cost us the game, ultimately.

Still, ST was pretty lousy overall.

Please tell me more about how well prepared these guys are?

-Another batch of critical turnovers
-Who is Ben going to blame now?
-Another 50% of the Steelers show up (this would 9+ that only half the players or so show up)
-Just a little hint for Canada... if they rarely show up for the entire year. It's not magically going to happen.
-Just another poor coaching job. Offense sleepwalking again...
-Great 50 yard field goal call...

BTW:

Next week.
-Rest Ben
-Rest Poms
-Rest hurt offensive line

We are out and don't need anymore injuries. Seriously, no need to get any more injuries.

Yeah. Two picks at the worst possible time. Tomlin's coaching hasn't been great but these two are on Ben. He just hasn't been the same QB since he got back from his injury.

Our defense lets us down the first 5 games then shows up and our offense takes a nose dive. Let's not forget our offense basically shut the Bungles down without it's best cover corner. Ben basically throws 10 points into the Bungles hands.

AndyWitmyer
12-23-2012, 04:22 PM
Ben, during this season, had NO HEART and Soul to even want to win, like he used to.

I can't help but to wonder if Ben's level of play was somehow an expression of passive aggression against the OC he never asked for or wanted...maybe even subconsciously. I just feel like Ben wasn't happy at all this year. Does that make him a spoiled QB? Possibly. But if there's no chemistry between Haley and Ben, we may as well have had Arians back.

Tomlin allowing that kick was idiotic. Punt it deep and make the Bengals go 60 yards.

At this point all we can hope is that Ben's throwing motion was still hurt from his rib injury and he'll be better next year. But even healthy this team needs offensive help.

Plus how can you NOT have two guys on Green on that last play?

The Bengals will be destroyed in the first round (as usual anyhow).

Why sorry? We're in agreement by and large. I am just saying that Roethlisberger has really screwed the pooch at the worst possible moments. Love the guy and haven't forgotten what he's done for us but he's made some very bad mistakes that cost us the last couple games. I mean it's a team effort ultimately. Receivers gotta catch balls, running backs gotta get those yards, etc.

NYC_Steeler

Now that Cowher's players are old we see how "good" Tomlin is.

You bet - that's what I've been saying for the longest time, but the Tomlin faithful keep drinking the Kool-Aid. He couldn't manage hs way out of a paper pag. Insanity is defined as doing the sme thing over and over - which is a clear picture of our offense play calling. What a friggin' disaster and disappointment this team has been.

Raw Steel
12-23-2012, 04:24 PM
The problem with Ben is his ego. He refuses to throw balls away. He refuses to run out of bounds. He reads how he is Superman and can get out of anything and make plays.

As for Tomlin, he shouldn't be coaching a high school team. This team looks like the Browns, not the Steelers. And who can really stick up for his decision making. They lost five games to teams they were favored over. Can you really say that has nothing to with the game preparation?

-Tomlin shouldn't have been pushing it like that as sketchy as offense had played
-Tomlin should have been just a tad worried with all the sacks we've been giving up

-Tomlin's call for the 50 yard field goal. Just bad... Come on, every one of us morons on the board know's Sushi can't kick more than 45 yards

Unfortunately, they won't get rid of him but this team is just all around bad:

Offensive schizo
Defensive decent most of the time

Everyone tore up on me when I said I would trade Ben for Rodgers two years ago. Not looking so bad now ha? Ben has been a joke lately

I wouldn't say he was a "joke". I think he's got a lot of sh!t going on - on field and off field. I just became a father for the first time last week - I can say, firsthand, that (at least initially) things change drastically when a child comes along. I'm not trying to blame his child. Or his wife. But that is a pretty big life change to deal with while ALSO having to play football.

I'm sure he just wants to be home and with his wife and child. And that might have played a part in his deficiency of play post-injury.

But ultimately, I do feel as though the Haley experiment was a bust. Ben never trusted him or respected him. That's going to impact his level of play. The offseason is going to be interesting, for sure. Whether fair or not, I would not be surprised if Haley gets fired.

The only team playing like a champion in the AFC are the Broncos. Houston mailed their game in today and NE barely beat a bad Jacksonville team.

Well the rift is tearing the team apart. This Steeler team did what Steeler teams never do==just imploded and gave games away.

CIN should take the game and not look back but they will lose their first playoff game and be done. Except for the last FG, PIT accounted for all of CIN's scoring.

There should be some angry folks in Pittsburgh. This just doesnt happen, but Tomlin let it happen and he allowed the Standard to SUCK ROCKS.

Tomlin will have the whole offseason to make amends with The Standard.

After all The Standard IS the Standard.

fortmemphis
12-23-2012, 04:53 PM
Yeah that was stupid. Suisham's career long is 52 and the longest FG at Heinz is 52. You either go for it or punt in that situation.

PLUS that was the end of the field where FGs go to die isnt it? I know the wind was swirling today but that is still the tough end to make a FG and he asked Suisham to make his career long on that end.
But hey, the Standard is the Standard even for FG kickers.

-Tomlin's call for the 50 yard field goal. Just bad... Come on, every one of us morons on the board know's Sushi can't kick more than 45 yards

I do want to point out a couple of things on these two points in particular, here because I agreed with most of what you said...

That having been said - in regards to the 3rd and one at the goal - not going for the first down was probably one of the two most costliest plays of the entire game. It would have been his worst decision of the game, aside from your second point.

In regards to Suisham, I think you're being somewhat unfair in regards to his ability versus the reality of Heinz Field and that NO KICKER has kicked a successful FG from beyond 52 yards on that field, ever. Suisham can certainly kick farther than 45 yards - he's been pretty much perfect in ranges between 40 and 52 yards. But asking him to kick a career long FG - as well as the longest FG on Heinz Field by any kicker, period - well, I'd say that was a bit of a tall order.

I'm not being unfair to Sushi. I'm an analytics guy. It's EXACTLY what you said:

1. I think we can agree that Sushi IS NOT considered a strong-legged kicker
2. Long-snapping was weird today. Laces out and low alot...
3. Heinz Field is grass
4. Heinz Field is windy and really hard to kick in...

You add all that up and it was just an insanely bad call. That is exactly what I meant... if we can figure that out what are we paying Tomlin 4+ million a year for.

You are right though, the pass play on 3rd and 1 on the 5 was just flat out a horrible call.

This is all on Ben. The lack of Hines Ward to make outstanding receptions, out of poor throws has exposed Ben for what he is. Ben is good for one thing and one thing only, escaping sacks and extending plays. He has gotten away from doing that the past couple seasons and tries to be a traditional passing QB. He is not a quality passing QB, and should go back to what he did best. I've been saying since he's been a Steeler that his receivers made him look better than he is. I hope he goes back to what made him a success.

You are right though, the pass play on 3rd and 1 on the 5 was just flat out a horrible call.

As long as we have Mendenhall & Redman, they have no business throwing when within 5 yards of the endzone. Always has me screaming at the TV when they do that.
Then they run when they have 90+ yards to the endzone, and 3rd & 5 or more.

Steelers oughta just not show up next week

Wait, I could have sworn the Steelers were doing exactly that for the past several games.
