NEW YORK Authorities say an NFL player has been arrested at a New York airport after police found a handgun in his luggage.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da`Quan Bowers was arraigned Monday on charges of criminal possession of a weapon and posted $10,000 bond.

Bowers was arrested at LaGuardia Airport as he was about to board a US Airways flight to Raleigh, N.C. Authorities say the .40-caliber weapon was found during a search of his carry-on bag.

Efforts to reach his attorney were unsuccessful. The Buccaneers haven't returned messages seeking comment.

Bowers played college football for Clemson University and was chosen by the Buccaneers in the 2011 NFL draft.

Former Giants star Plaxico Burress was arrested on the same charge after he accidentally shot himself in a nightclub in 2008.

"He alerted the authorities to his weapon because he was getting ready to go on the flight, but it's illegal to carry a handgun in New York City,'' ...

It was not clear what Bowers was doing in New York, but he was preparing to board a flight to Raleigh, N.C., when he was arrested, Campbell said.

I went on a cruise exactly 30 days ago on the Carnival Conquest out of New Orleans. I was wearing the leather jacket I wore on New Years eve and had 3 left over smoke bomb/balls in the inside chest pocket. When it went on the conveyor belt and through the x-ray machine they held up the line, seized my jacket and passed it through again. they handed it back and i didnt realize the holdup until i discovered the smoke bombs in my pocket later that evening.

In the wake of the Carnival Triumph (no pun intended) i shouldve lit them and tried to score a free cruise or 2. I was gonna turn them in to customer service to expose a possible lapse in security but thought twice, drank lots of beer, and threw them away.

Anyways, the moral of the story is, is that this is much different than what that dumbass football player did. Big difference between a few Black Cats and a .40 cal.
