If he's cheap and Ben actually targets him in the red zone, I have no issue with this.

Always want him back at 1 year league minimum deal (or close to). He will be a good red zone/ third down target.

Plaxico gets another chance in Pittsburgh

Last year, receiver Plaxico Burress languished on the open market for months. He eventually signed with the Steelers in November, appearing in four games with three starts.

This year, Burress wonít be hanging around.

Burress has agreed to terms to return to the Steelers, per a source with knowledge of the situaiton.

Terms of the deal arenít yet known. Chances are that the salary is at the veteran minimum, possibly with incentives based on his performance and playing time.

Burress started his career as a first-round pick in Pittsburgh. After five seasons with the Steelers, he joined the Giants. In November 2008, he fired a bullet through his leg in a Manhattan nightclub and ultimately went to prison for carrying an unregistered concealed weapon in New York.

Release in the summer of 2011, Burress signed with the Jets after the lockout, catching eight touchdown passes in 16 games. Last year, he managed three receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown.

I am good with that signing...

But they still need to draft some young stud that has Wallace speed..

I'm digging this, as long as they give him a bigger role/target him more this year.

Good signing, but as others have pointed out the WR corps still needs one more [young] guy.

I think it has more to do with Heath's injury rather than Wallace leaving.

How about a 6`2" guy with good hands and a great route runner instead of a "stretch the field guy"?

The Steelers need a Santonio Holmes type more than a Mike Wallace type

is this bad news for Cotchery?

is this bad news for Cotchery?

I doubt it. Cotch is still a slot receiver, so is Sanders for that matter. If Burress still has something in the tank, we might see Brown and Plax start, with either Cotchery or Sanders as the #3 WR.

I guess we could see Sanders and Brown start, but both are small targets that do the same thing on the field. Either way, Ben likes that big target and I'm OK with Burress.

I like it. Now they can concentrate on drafting at least 3 difference makers.

I totally love the signing, what would you guys think about Cordarelle Patterson from Tennessee as the #1 pick? I figure he will definitely be there and with Burress back a veteran to mentor the young rookie. :noidea:

please Ben, use this guy more next season. He should be good for 5 plus TD based on red zone matchups alone. Really like this signing.

You're begging the wrong guy. The head coach has to start him or play him more, and the offensive coordinator has to have him much higher on Ben's progressions on pass plays.

I imagine he needed time to get up to speed as well A full offseason and we could be looking at a still very formidable foursome of Brown, Sanders, Crotchery, Plex. I will take that any day especially if Sanders gets healthy.

not Ben's fault. Haley has to incorporate him into the plays this time and involve him. If they're signing him, lets use him this time.

I'm happy Plax is back. Now let's hope he is utilized correctly as a big target for Big Ben. :tt:

Plex gonna have a full off season learning Haley's offence. He'll be targeted quite a bit. I like this signing!

Not sure what I expect out of Burress. Guess it's good to have him back but not sure he can replace Wallace. Steelers are going to have to make a move for another WR, go for one in the draft, or have one of their other WRs step up.

A few years ago, we were courting Plax along with several other teams and he spurned us.

Now nobody else wants him.

Why the Steelers want to re-sign Plaxico Burress

by Gerry Dulac

The Steelers are close to an agreement to re-sign wide receiver Plaxico Burress, a move designed to bolster the receiving unit with the departure of Mike Wallace.

Burress, a former No. 1 draft choice in 2000, signed a one-year contract for the veteran minimum in late November and played in four of the final six games.

But, with the expected loss of Wallace, the Steelers have only two wide receivers under contract on their roster Ė Antonio Brown and Jerricho Cotchery.

Emmanuel Sanders is a restricted free agent and was tendered a $1.323 million offer to remain with the team. He can receive an offer sheet from another team, but the Steelers have the right to match that offer.

The way I see it we were probably one TD away from making the post season last year. In all those close games down the stretch where we needed just one more win Buress could have easily made the difference in the red zone to get the winning points. But no Tomlin in his superior coaching wisdom doesn't even have the guy active until the last meaningless game against the Browns where he scores a TD in the red zone. I guess he needed that extra special teams player active to do nothing out there. And now they decide to sign him. Good move Tomlin. Now are you going to play him?

I really like this but I really hope we actually try to utilize him this year. He was such a wasted talent last year when we brought him in.
