Ravens lose sixth starter in Williams
March, 14, 2013
By Jamison Hensley | ESPN.com

If you're counting at home, the Baltimore Ravens lost their sixth starter from their Super Bowl team, when cornerback Cary Williams signed a three-year, $17 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.

The Ravens knew they weren't going to be able to retain Williams. They didn't have the salary-cap room and they really didn't have a spot for him. Baltimore was set on going into 2013 with Lardarius Webb, Corey Graham and Jimmy Smith being its top three corners.

Williams, a former Tennessee Titans' practice squad member, developed into a two-year starter for the Ravens. He had four interceptions in the regular season, including one for a touchdown against the Cleveland Browns in Week 4. Williams also picked off two passes in the playoffs, sealing the Ravens' trip to the Super Bowl with an interception of Tom Brady in the end zone with 66 seconds remaining.

At least this makes me feel a little bit better about Keenan Lewis.

Didn't you know? Ozzie Christ obviously has a plan. After all, he is the best GM in the league.

Hurts their depth at least. I assume Smith and Webb will be their starting corners but both guys have legit injury concerns.

"In Ozzie we trust". :jerkit:

They'll be hurting this year. You can't lose 6 (maybe 7 or 8 soon with Reed and Leach) starters with nobody really to replace them. They'd better have the draft for the ages to plug all of those holes.

You should hear some of these fans.

"We didn't need Pollard or Reed! We have Flacco!"

I can't wait to see who they throw in at Linebacker to replace both Lewis and Ellerbe. Not to mention they're putting their hopes in James Ihedigbo to replace Pollard and another to-be-named Safety to replace Reed who, in all likelihood, is probably already gone.

You're right, they better have the draft of the century to fill these holes. They won't, though.

Exactly. I mean I understand why they have faith in their FO. But they have lost a lot this offseason. And I don't care what they say. Losing Boldin really hurts Flacco. Going to be interesting to see how much Torrey Smith is going to ask for in FA. The advantage they have with Smith that we lacked with Wallace is Smith is a hometown guy but Smith's going to want big money I bet.

i can't remember a team dismantling this fast & heavy in a long, long time.

Ozzie Newsom is a good GM, but its "fools gold". He's doesn't walk on water like the media has been portraying him to be. The fact is that the Ravens have went a number of years w/out having to pay super-huge contracts and were able to "spread the wealth" a bit, thus creating a strong team across the board.
Now that Flacco has ALL the money and other guys are figuring out they can get rich somewhere else, they're all bailing.
Ed Reed is next - likely to Texas.

I do look for Baltimore to end up signing James Harrison, though. He'll be a good fit and they've have been talking.

I am at a lose. Good for us, but man, our rivals are weak now.

During the post-season Cary Williams led the league in 1st downs allowed. He consistently plays way off his man. I would've have been more upset if the re-signed him.

As a Ravens fan, I hate it when a post on another forum can make me laugh, but that picture is priceless. Love it. At least it looks like we're under the cap. :)
