Yea this won't happen. He is to old to learn a totally new system. Ifhe was in his 20's still this post would of gotten me sexually excited. He was one of the best middle linebackers ever

Brian Urlacher ready for new team

Updated: March 22, 2013
ESPNChicago.com

A free agent for the first time in his 13-year career, former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher said Friday he's not sure if teams will be interested in him, but he's looking forward to finding out.

"I'm disappointed, but I'm also excited," Urlacher told "The Dan Patrick Show." "I get a chance to kind of look around and see what's out there, if there is anything out there at all. I don't know. Maybe nobody wants me. Who knows? But we're going to find out; I know that much."

The Bears announced Wednesday they would not re-sign Urlacher for a 14th season after the linebacker turned down their one-year offer that could have totaled $2 million. Urlacher said his camp made an initial offer to the Bears, which was for two years and $11 million. He considered that a starting point in negotiations and came down to $3.5 million for one year, but Urlacher said the Bears wouldn't budge from their $2 million offer.

Urlacher said "30 seconds" after his agent heard from the Bears that they would not re-sign him the team issued a news release on Twitter announcing the split.

"I would have appreciated a call from, maybe not (from Bears general manager) Phil (Emery), but (from team chairman) George (McCaskey) or somebody else I've been around," Urlacher said Friday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN Chicago 1000. "I haven't been around Phil; he's been here for one year, so I don't know him all that well, but (a call) from somebody else in the organization I've been around for a long time (would have been appreciated)."

On Friday, the Bears signed former Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams to a one-year deal, a source confirmed to ESPNChicago.com. The 30-year-old was suspended nine games last season for violating the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy and for his second arrest for driving under the influence. According to the Chicago Tribune, he can earn a maximum of $1.75 million if he hits all bonuses.

Urlacher, who will be 35 in May, said his agent has talked with the Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals. ESPN Twin Cities reported last week that the Vikings would not be interested in Urlacher unless his price comes way down.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones doubts Dallas would sign Urlacher, noting it wouldn't make sense to sign him as a backup to Sean Lee only to cut him in a year.

"You don't ever dismiss Hall of Famers in my book," Jones told ESPNDallas.com. "It would be difficult. He obviously plays what Sean plays. To move everything around for a year doesn't really make a lot of sense. But at the same time, you don't ever rule it out."

Urlacher, who wants to play as many as three more seasons, said he believes more teams weren't interested because they doubted he would hit the open market.

"The crazy thing is no one thought I would leave Chicago," Urlacher said to Patrick. "All these teams this whole time they've talked to, they're like, 'Chicago is not going to let him go. He's not going to leave them, so why waste our time with this?' I think it's pretty obvious now that that is not the case."

Urlacher said he is open to play for any team, even the Bears' division rival Green Bay Packers, although he would be surprised if he landed there.

"Every team is an option right now," Urlacher told "Waddle & Silvy." "I haven't ruled anything out. I would be really, really surprised if I went to Green Bay. That would be really weird. But like I said, I'd like to play for a team that has a chance to win. They've won. Minnesota won last year. Green Bay has been good for a long time. I don't see that happening, but there's 31 options out there."

Urlacher injured his knee in the final game of the 2011 season and struggled with the injury for much of the 2012 season. He missed the final four games last season after suffering a hamstring injury in a game against the Seattle Seahawks on Dec. 2.

The injuries along with his age might be an obstacle for Urlacher to find a new home at the price he wants, but he said his body feels good and that he is eager to prove he can still play.

"On the field is the only way I can answer it," Urlacher told "Waddle & Silvy." "My body feels great. My knee feels good. I've rehabbed. I'm actually working out now finally, whereas last year all I did was rehab and try to get this thing right and it never was. But now I'm just finally working out and doing the things I need to do to get better, get back on the field and be successful."

You should run the Steelers with your over simplistic and often arrogant tone you have whenever the front office does anything. Why wouldn't we take Urlacher if he came cheap? I'd put him in the starting lineup ahead of Foote, that's forsure.

Whats up with 35 year old LB's anyway?

Harrison and Urlacher wanted WAY too much money for 1) their ages and 2) they've both had recent injuries.

Delusional (obviously). Smoking too much of the good stuff? Probably. After you've had other players and thousands of fans kiss your ass and part like the red sea whenever you walk into a room, any room, for years - its easy to buy in to your own hype.

Brian Urlacher expected dis from Bears, says he’ll play in 2013

By SEAN JENSEN sjensen@suntimes.com
Updated: March 22, 2013 1:30PM

Brian Urlacher doesn’t know what his value is in a depressed market, and he isn’t sure if he’ll get more than the Bears’ one-year deal worth up to $2 million.

He just knows his career isn’t over and that under no circumstance is he not coming back for a 14th NFL season.

Asked if he’d considered the modest contracts for free agents this offseason, Urlacher told the Sun-Times, ‘‘What I factored is what the Bears asked me to do. They talked about me being a great leader, a great locker room guy, but their offer didn’t live up to that. Their offer reflected me hanging out in the locker room and not [playing] any football, like being a coach. That’s a bunch of money, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not what I’m willing to play for the Bears for.’’

The offer consisted of a $500,000 signing bonus, a $500,000 workout bonus and a base salary of $1 million.

Asked if the offer was fair, four NFL general managers and eight other personnel executives, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it was. One NFC executive said Urlacher deserved more — perhaps up to $3 million because a team generally pays a premium to keep a beloved, homegrown player happy.

‘‘The club could have offered nothing,’’ one general manager said.

Added an NFC personnel executive, ‘‘He’s an aging guy who can’t run. Bold move — and the right move — by Emery. Better to get rid of a player a year too early than a year too late.’’

Urlacher, 34, insisted he wanted to work with the Bears on a deal, with his agents asking for an opportunity for him to earn more money via incentives or even based on playing time.

‘‘I was open for that,’’ he said. ‘‘It’s fair to both sides. If I don’t play, I shouldn’t get paid.’’

His agents’ final counteroffer was a deal that totaled $3.5 million.

The Bears weren’t interested and issued a statement Wednesday night saying they were unable to reach an agreement and that both sides ‘‘have decided to move forward.’’

Asked if he would consider going back to the Bears if he doesn’t drum up enough interest — or money — elsewhere, Urlacher said, ‘‘It’s closed.’’

‘‘I think their offer is off the table, and after the way they handled it, I don’t know if I want to play for them,’’ he said. ‘‘Who knows?[B] I may play for $2 million for someone else.’’

Urlacher said he wasn’t surprised at how things have unfolded. He told his agents immediately after the season not to initiate contact with the Bears, wanting the team to make the first move. Then, at the NFL Combine, the Bears requested a meeting and asked his agents to make an offer.

They did, proposing a two-year, $11 million deal, but they didn’t hear back for a while.

‘‘I’ve been expecting this for two months,’’ Urlacher said. ‘‘I’m not shocked. It would have been a lot easier if they would have told me after the season, ‘It’s time for us to move on.’

‘‘I think it was just to save face, honestly. They wanted to say, ‘We tried to sign him back, but he didn’t want to be a Bear anymore.’ ’’

Urlacher said his agents have talked to a ‘‘bunch of teams,’’ but he believes he has been hurt because other evaluators expected him to return to the Bears.

‘‘It was hard for anyone to believe I wouldn’t be here [in Chicago],’’ he said. ‘‘But I’m going to play for sure.’’

"Old fart” Urlacher looking for a place to win

Urlacher is not the only decorated vet who was jettisoned this off-season. Dwight Freeney, the 33 year-old defensive end for the Indianapolis Colts, is on the market, after 11 years as a stalwart with the team. James Harrison, the NFL’s “bad guy,” was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers at age 34 after two Super Bowl wins, a Defensive Player of the Year award and perhaps the greatest single play in Super Bowl history.

urlacher ....freeney....are we switching to the 4-3???

Could be? maybe

If the Steelers braintrust no longer thinks our linebackers are our strength - I could see a 4-3 switch with a legitimate pass rush threat like Freeney, plug that true 4-3 MLB hole with the old Bear, what the hell....we need a pass rush, and LeBeau knows it. they could play a hybrid with the pass rush specialist in on 3rd and long.

I fucking hate getting beat on 3rd and 15 all the fucking time because our soft zone goes softer, know what I mean?

Why would the Steelers even be in the conversation about acquiring Freeney?

The Steelers front office sure doesn't seem to be in love with Worilds like all y'all are.

I think this would be a decent pickup if it was for the veteran minimum with incentives...it also gives the Steelers one more year to see if Spence is going to be available. He would definitely bring leadership and better play beside Timmons at least for 1 year. But the deal has to be right. WE NEED VETERAN LEADERSHIP!!!

This year is shaping up to sound line a "stop gap" year, like the front office knows the Steelers will have trouble contending, so they're using this year to get by and re-tool for next season and beyond.

Then again, I'm just a stupid fan. We'll probably wind up in the Super Bowl. Every year I think we're screwed, we wind up there.

PhantomJB93

IDK I like this better than Freeney. He is old and not used to a 3-4, but he was still good last year (not great) and the alternative is another aging veteran in Foote. Way more upside than a Freeney signing. Learning the scheme is a small concern but it shouldn't be TOO big a deal for a player of his caliber.

they didn't come to an agreement with him because they refused to pay him a shitload of money. 35 and injury prone, and they need help a whole bunch of places.
Even if they do have the cap room, their front office was not budging on the figure they offered due to age, injury, need elsewhere.

Unknown New York State Reporter Claims Former Bears LB Brian Urlacher Will Meet With Steelers
Friday, March 22nd, 2013 at 7:35 pm by Dave Bryan

In one of the craziest reports of the week, Bobby Brooks of WETM 18 in Elmira, New York, reported Thursday via Twitter that sources close to former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher claim that the future Hall of Famer will meet with Pittsburgh Steelers to discuss possible contract negotiations.

Brooks, who has all of 27 followers and 57 tweets, appears to be a real person and not a clothing line for young woman that John Cougar Mellencamp sang about in the 1980's song, "Jack and Dianne." According to Brooks' bio page, he is a graduate of Penn State that roots for all teams donning the black and gold. How appropriate.

I think you see where I am going with this.

Urlacher will be 35 years of age in May and said this past week that he turned down a one-year contract for $2 million to remain with the Bears, the team that selected him in the first round of the 2000 NFL draft.

Urlacher has also never played in a 3-4 defense.

Perhaps Brooks missed the release of soon-to-be 35 year-old linebacker James Harrison a few weeks ago and doesn't know that the Steelers also re-signed Larry Foote. Maybe he doesn't follow teams wearing the black and gold as much as he claims to.

As you can imagine, some Steelers fans are running with this news as if it were fact, and for what reason, I do not know.

Just as Mellancamp sang several years ago, "Oh yeah, life goes on."

Here's to your credibility and 80's music, Bobby.

Signing Urlacher to a 2 yr deal and then resigning Harrison for the same would be an awesome linebacking core if these two stayed healthy. There is a reason why Harrison hasnt signed and I dont think it is just about his age. This would allow us to give Spence another year of healing and then we could take a flier on a draft pick at either MLB or OLB as a project. Could be a nice deal for the Steelers!!! Just my thoughts!!!

It would be cool for a year or two, but then what? I'm more interested in building for the future then I am in salvaging the next 2 years. I'd like to see us move forward.

It's highly unlikely though. I honestly would enjoy watching it happen, but I don't see it happening and I don't like the future afterwards.

My Opinion: We don't need a ILB that's old, slow, and can't cover anyone in the secondary, we already have one Moderate at best ILB in Foote, we don't need another one.

I watched some videos of him this year after I made my last post, and now I would have to agree. He's still a great run stopper, but that's not what we need right now. Urlacher is WAY too slow to cover any of the TE's or RB's that we face on an annual basis.
