Most of the reason behind that speculation stems from the belief that Heath Miller, who tore his ACL, MCL, PCL in week 16,might start the season on the reserved PUP list, while that is possible, I would not bet against it.

Miller as of today is 3 months 2day removed from his surgery. By the time the season starts he will be 8 months 13 days removed from surgery. With all the advances that have been made in knee reconstructions, That is a long time.

Max Starks and Casey Hampton both made it back to start the season in 7 months 14 days. Rashard Mendhall made it back in 9months.Why so long. Running backs position requires backs to be able to change directions quickly and the Steelers likely didn't want to rush him back.

AP made it back in 8 months 17 days. He tore his ACL and MCl

I sure do wish that was his real first name.

Good one!

Whatever the name, lets not rule of him out.

Much as I would love to have Miller around for the start of the season, the realistic part of me says "No way".

I totally agree with you. What is realistic is say Week 5. He misses a 4th of the season, and who knows how effective he will be. Mendenhall had a less serious knee injury and came back Week 5, but was never 100%, which was so obvious even Kevin Colbert said it.

I love Heath Miller, but he isn't that far from the end of what could be a Hall of Fame career. His contract is going to be a problem one of this days.

The Steelers ran a two tight end formation on what, maybe half of the offensive plays? Paulson and Spaeth are your tight ends? Woe is me. Spaeth can block, but he can't catch, and Paulson can't do either. Watch the last game of the season against the Browns where he started in place of the injured Heath. Paulson was targeted exactly once by Ben in that game and the pass was almost picked because Paulson wasn't open.

There are some real good tight ends in the draft.

This is why I dont understand all the posts about drafting a TE in the 1st like Eiffert. Miller will be back by game 4 at least. Paulsen, Johnson and some other veteran free agents will be in camp and all will be fine by the start of the season.

If we get some extra picks and find a TE in the 4th, I am fine with that. Miller will be back and fine.

I am not going to rule Miller out to start the season. I think he is a true professional ( unlike some in the league ) and will do everything in his power to get him self game ready. I know he is no spring chicken ( in NFL terms ) but I like his work ethic. Rehab and get Healthy Heath, we are going to need ya.

Even if he's ready on Opening day, drafting a mid-round TE in this years draft wouldn't be out of the question for the Future.

Health? If that's his first name, I wouldn't count him out for week One. :chuckle:

But no, his first name is Earl.
