Former Steelers center Chukky Okobi pleaded guilty to a summary count of harassment this morning in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court.

Prosecutors agreed to reduce a charge of simple assault to harassment in exchange for the plea.

Common Pleas Judge David R. Cashman sentenced Mr. Okobi to pay a $100 fine.

The charge stemmed from an Aug. 25 fight in the Bar Room on Pittsburgh's South Side.

According to a criminal complaint, Mr. Okobi was yelling at his girlfriend while selling T-shirts at the Station Square bar.

Concerned for the woman's safety, several people intervened and Mr. Okobi lashed out at them.

He punched two people and put another in a headlock, according to the complaint.

At his preliminary hearing, Mr. Okobi said he was venting about a problem and not yelling at his girlfriend.

Mr. Okobi said another man shoved him and that he was only defending himself. Mr. Okobi said he was attacked -- punched and kicked.

Initially, Mr. Okobi was charged with five counts of simple assault, but the magistrate district judge dismissed four.

The only charge remaining involved the bouncer at the bar who was trying to break up the fight and said he was punched in the face.

Defense attorney Bob Del Greco said his client was pleased with the "favorable result."

Mr. Okobi operates the Mansion at Maple Heights, a bed and breakfast in Shadyside.

"He has diligently attempted to grow his business in a good way," Mr. Del Greco said.
