Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been charged with battery after an incident with a security guard at a restaurant in St. Augustine, Florida.

Jones-Drew is accused of punching the security guard and knocking him unconscious, according to TMZ.

Police say the incident began when a security guard told a friend of Jones-Drew’s to stop touching a young woman. That led to the friend putting his hands on the security guard, and a fight breaking out.

The security guard suffered contusions and a swollen jaw, police say.

Jones-Drew charged with battery

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been charged with misdemeanor battery stemming from an incident at a St. Augustine restaurant Sunday night.

The St. Augustine Police Department said Jones-Drew struck a security guard, “knocking him out,” during an altercation at the Conch House Restaurant and Marina.

The police say Jones-Drew left the scene before they arrived.

The Jaguars released a statement this afternoon: “We are aware of the situation regarding Maurice Jones-Drew and are in the process of gathering more information. Due to this being a legal matter, we'll have no further comment at this time.”

According to the police report said the incident happened at around 8 p.m. Sunday.

“An altercation broke out on the dock. … Conch House security got involved and during the altercation, Jones-Drew hit the security officer on the left side of his head, knocking him out.”

No other Jaguars players are believed to be involved. The team’s veterans are off this week from voluntary conditioning sessions.

Jones-Drew was scheduled to spend the last part of May and early part of June training in south Florida – he missed last week’s three OTA practices with the blessing of general manager Dave Caldwell and coach Gus Bradley.

Jones-Drew’s incident is the second off-the-field for the Jaguars this spring – receiver Justin Blackmon was suspended for the first four games for violating the NFL’s substance program.

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been charged with misdemeanor battery after allegedly striking a security guard in the face at the Conch House bar and restaurant in St. Augustine, Fla. on Sunday.

According to the police report, a friend of Jones-Drew put his hands on a security guard after being warned to stop touching a young woman. An alleged scuffle ensued wherein the security guard -- who goes by the nickname "Hillbilly" in the police report -- put the friend in a headlock. At that point, Jones-Drew allegedly knocked the security guard out with a closed fist to the cheek.

Doctors found contusions and a bone bruise but no broken bones in Hillbilly's swollen jaw.

"We are aware of the situation regarding Maurice Jones-Drew and are in the process of gathering more information," the Jaguars said in a statement to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. "Due to this being a legal matter, we'll have no further comment at this time."

Although Jones-Drew has been a model citizen since entering the NFL, he was accused of assaulting a Denny's patron just prior to the 2006 NFL Draft. Charges ultimately were dropped.

Jones-Drew will be investigated under the league's Personal Conduct Policy. The Commissioner's office typically allows the legal process to play out in incidents such as this one.

There's not enough information. Does touching a woman mean tapping her shoulder to get through a crowd or is it grabbing her crotch?

I want you to be nice.. until it's time..to not be nice

Because violence is the appropriate response to being told to stop harassing women.

Yeah, because the word of the security guard named "Hillbilly" is the gospel. There is no possible way "Hillbilly" is a loser who himself acts inappropriately because as we all know bouncers are all really nice people especially ones named "Hillbilly."

He's too short to punch "Hillbilly" in the head!

It's the vertically challenged defense.
